Default GMMG question

Did any of the GMMG or Blackbirds come with headers?

Do they have functional rear 02 sensors? Or were they tuned out?

Good question on the sims but does it really matter? Just dont understand what we're trying to get at. Most of the GMMG cars that came with headers used the ever popular Kooks brand, especially the DH Camaro....

I am trying to get at not having to worry about visual inspection of emmisions. Thought maybe GMMG knew a way to legally have LT headers. But after I did some reading, looks like GMMG guys might be in the same boat as me if a inspector ever decided to look under (Texas).

If I'm not mistaken, I think there was one Phase I Blackbird that came with headers. It was car #37 or #38 and was owned by Bobby Labonte. It has been sold a couple of times since Bobby owned it and was on ebay recently. It is a white car with green stripes. I thought Matt Murphy told me that it came with headers. I would check with him to be sure.

But according to your sig, you live in the Great State of Texas where I thought they just pop your hood, say uh huh, close it and give you a sticker!?! Sorry man. Best bet would be to check around at different shops and see how they do inspections and whether or not they are shady enough where you could throw a few extra bucks at them to pass you. Just my opinion though, wouldnt recommend it personally. good luck

Yes, most Texas counties are pretty easy to pass emissions testing. I just wanted to not ever have to worry about it. Legally, I don't think LT headers are allowed in any state. Because they require the cats to be moved from original location. Kinda scary to me, when they pop the hood its pretty easy to tell they are LT headers from the top. I keep finding myself thinking about that 66 / 67 Nova I always wanted.

In GA where these cars were built emissions on all these cars are OBDII hook up/read and a gas cap test..that's it. No visual at all. If your car has headers of any kind they don't care as long as it passes the OBDII readiness test and your gas cap doesn't leak. They don't even look to see if it has cats on it or not where I've gone to get it done and it wasn't like I went out of the way either. Although my car does have them. I pulled in with LT's, a cam, and an SLP LM and it was LOUD in that metal building. He didn't even ask anything about it. As long as it doesn't throw a code..your good. I'm not sure how they do emissions in other states but any of those cars would pass in GA. To top it off you don't even get emissions tested in some counties here.

Cats can be moved. Maybe not removed. Protection from crap like that is one of the things SEMA does.

Default 02 blackbird #38 Bobby labonte car

My blackbird has headers but is not a phase two blackbird. My car was made for Bobby LaBonte so they installed headers on this car. I have talked to Matt Murphy and he verified it.

Jim I am jealous of your Labonte Blackbird! And I am one of the lucky ones in GA to live in a county with no emmisions testing.

You shouldn't have any problems getting your car inspected in Texas.

Default Yes #38 has the NASCAR Long Tube Headers

Hi:

I recently purchased this car from Jim Simon & expect to have it in Wisconsin about April 15th.

The GMMG Window Sticker indicates headers, special Interstate Green paint on the hood.

Matt Murphy e-mailed info to me & I expect to visit with him on the phone today.

I am working on additional information & photos @ www.daytonapacecars.com
