Which one?
Hey guys been awhile since ive been on, so long i forgot my username/password, so im not a nooby around here. Anyways, I have a question for yall stereo guys. I'm 17, and have been working for awhile for some subs. My current system set up is a kdc-x891 headunit, alpine 550 for highs and mids, polk momo 6 1/2 components up front, and polk 4x9 plates in the back. An Autotek StreetMachine 800 watt amp for my subs. Oh this is for a 2001 GMC Sierra. I didn't want to take my back seat out but I think I'm going to have no choice. I have about 650 dollars saved up for subs, and am considering 1 JL w7 in the H.O. Box, or 2 12 MTX TS5512 in the MTX ported box they come in. Any recommendations? I'm not set on these subs but need something that goes well with my current amp since I don't have enough money for another one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, "the son of an LS1 Junky".

Just got back from the local stereo shop and picked me up a 10 W7 in the H.O. box. Hope I made the right choice, should be here in about 3 days so we'll see. Peace - "the son of a LS1 junkie"

The two you mentioned are on different ends of the spectrum. The mtx 5500's are low end and the jl w7 is high end. I think u made a decent choice, could have done better for less money, but you should be happy with it.

Rereading your post, i would have def not gone with a box and loose my seats. I would have gotten a box for under the seat and gotten 2 shallower mount 10's, i think kicker l7's would even fit there.

That is what I had, I two JL W1's in a sealed downfiring box, just wasn't enough bass for me. Plus I really didn't like the way the downfiring box made the bass sound. With the platform, (just takes away the hump i have in the floorboard in the back) the H.O. box sits perfectly angling toward my front windshield. I think I will be happy with it as well. Hope so at least. Peace - "the son of a LS1 junkie"

You made a bad choice for value, but a pretty good choice overall. Just too bad that you went 10" because 12" is really the minimum for subwoofers IMO. I would still have taken the aforementioned Fi Q any day because it's both great and relatively cheap for what it is.
