Default JL XD700/5 Stock Mounting Location Project

So I just picked up a JL XD700/5 from Kee Audio and I was messing around with mounting options.

It occurred to me that this amp was only slightly larger than the stock monsoon amp, which is just dead weight in my car. So I worked on a little project to make a bracket to mount it up...

Tracing out the shape and matching it to the Delco amp...

These tabs had to be trimmed off the stock bracket.

Mounted my piece of sheet aluminum to the stock Monsoon bracket.

Mounted the JL amp to the metal bracket...

These are the fasteners I used...

Mounted in the car... Fits pretty well. If I did it again, I would move the amp over about a quarter inch because it does touch the antenna tube a bit.

Haven't wired it all up yet, but looking forward to it. I'm excited to ditch my old big amp rack and go with a bit more stealthy appearance!

That's a great idea! That would have saved me buying an amp rack. I like the amp a lot.

Ripped all the old stuff out... have to extend a bunch of these wires, redo a lot of routing, etc. Just wanted to get it in and set the gains and do a test listen. (Only running fronts and subwoofer right now, haven't figured out how I'm mounting the sail panel speakers yet)

Thanks man! I really enjoyed reading your install thread by the way.

I am considering going through the car with sound dampening material... we'll see...

It's a lot of work but definitely worth it. Thanks for the kind words.

Did a bit more work on it tonight... lengthened the wires I needed to and zip tied, routed, etc. Still don't have the sail panel speakers mounted (not sure how I'm going to do that still), but I've got it pretty dialed in with the fronts/sub.

Amp went back in with all the wires hooked up in like 30 seconds. I really like this mounting solution. The plastic bracket actually has 'helpers', a tab and a dowel that help you locate it securely before you screw it in.

Here you can see my amp rack is gone and I've routed the wires behind the carpet...

Finally finished everything up tonight...

Forgot to post this before, but here was my 'big 3' upgrade kit

The old sail panel speakers...

The new mounting location is extremely easy to remove and replace. Took the amp out to hook up the sail panel speakers and to tune the gain/crossovers some more.

New CDT HD-6CF sail panel mid-woofer speakers...

Amp reinstalled in its new mount with all the speakers hooked up finally. Everything tucks away nicely.

Stealth...

Lovin that Punch 75. My first amp when I was 16 was a Punch 45. Cheater amps for back then. Those were cool little amps!
