Default 300amp alternator.....can it be done for our LS engines....?

---This is probably a better section for this----

I could have swore I read on this forum somewhere of someone who found or had someone build them a 300amp capable alternator for our LS Engines.

Anyone know....???

I need one. I want the 145amp's that the KG3 truck alternator provides......but I also need 110amp extra to run a stand-alone electric A/C compressor motor.

So really, a 255 amp alternator will do the trick.

There are plenty of aftermarket alternators that are basically bolt-in. Mechman makes a 250amp and 300+ amp alternator that uses the truck housing.

Keep in mind you'll need to upgrade the wiring from the alt to the battery, and I'd recommend upgrading other wires in the car as well.

Thanks....I just emailed them to ask.

Do you know if any of these 250amp or 300amp alternators are of the ZL1 Camaro or SC'ed CTS-V or SC'ed Vette models.....?

I need the ZL1/Caddy/Vette model alternator only.....

You can't just pump the rectifier and get to 300A, that requires specialty wound units,
the insulator won't handle the heat. On a rig with a tight engine bay, you might need to
run a 2" silicone hose from eh front cowl, to the alternator with a small ventilator fan
to keep the unit cool enough..

Most of these are made for either Police or Emergency applications.. I'd start there, they
are usually made to actually work at idle speeds, when used to run special service accessories,
they connect to the AC line to the ECU on the motor to idle the engine up a couple hundred RPM..
Most alternators need 2000+ shaft rpm to really get cranking on power..

Curious, what air load are you running that needs a 110A compressor?

There are several that Off-roaders uses for tires and even smaller air tools, Like ARB's twin,
they pull 50A to 65A , I've run one off my wimpy 95A Jeep alternator.. It will run a small impact wrench for
changing tires .. as long as your using burst demand the alternator will keep up the battery provides the main power hit.

Ok, thanks for the info.

This video quality is not great, but this company makes the Killer Chiller that splices into the factory A/C lines to cool the intercooler fluid for the Supercharger.
They have now made a Stand-Alone electric A/C compressor motor that operates independently from the factory A/C system. So the Stand-Alone makes the intercooler fluid ice cold without splicing into the factory A/C system.

This Stand-Alone set up draws 110amps.
