Default Power Antenna Help
The power antenna on my Firebird has hit the dust. It goes up, but not down. Seeing how I don't really use the radio, I have no need for it.

What is the best (safest) way to disable it? Is there a fuse I can pull? Unplug it?

so you want it to stay down? if so just push it down by hand then unplug the harness of the power antenna which is located by the spare tire.hope that helps

Your antenna is fine! Its most likely just gummed up.

You can probably fix the problem on the cheap in a couple of seconds. The paint on the mast peels off and causes it to stick. Often you can soak a rag in mineral spirits, wipe down the mast, and then retract it. Repeat a couple of times and it should work normally for you.

I've noticed that the problem arises more often after exposure to road salts. GM's official factory manual fix (above) will work for a couple of cycles and when it gets too bad to fix, they sell a replacement mast that you can pop in without replacing the motor unit.

im having the same problem. but i dont have a radio anyway because my head-unit is only for my ipod and CDs lol. so im disabling it if i can find the plug yall are talking about

^^ I did the same thing. For the amount of time I listen to the radio, it wasn't worth the effort to fix it.

It looks goofy up when you're playing a CD anyways.

I was thinking that when I wrote it, but was hoping nobody would catch me looking like a dumbass, and I could get away with being lazy

Let's try this again:

-The car looks goofy when the antenna is up.
-The antenna goes up unnecessarily when playing a CD.
-Therefore, I feel my car looks goofy when I'm playing a CD.
