Default LS1 M6 vs. LT1 M6

So Sunday night i went out and seen bruno with my girlfriend (hilarious movie) and ran into one of my buddy's that has a bone stock 2001 Camaro SS. Now my car is a 1995 T/A M6 with stock manifolds, borla cat-back, Lt4 cam, 1.6 RR's, Ported stock heads and intake and ported throttle body. stock 3.42 rear and and my clutch slips horribly in 3rd gear and above. As we were leaving i wasnt anticipating racing him since my clutch is shot but he threw me a rev as i was approaching my exit so i couldnt resist but to skip my exit and go after him, i line up next to him and we slow to about 50 and he honks it off, i took the jump assuming i'd need it and i pulled about 1 1/2 cars and was slowly pulling from there until 4th gear he FLEW past me. lol i'll also mention he has 3 passengers. we than ran from about 30, in first gear. we hit about the same time and i pulled about 2 cars this time slammed 2nd and my clutch slipped so bad it hit the limiter before grabbing but i was still holding him off until i hit 3rd and my clutch was gone but he only got me by 1/2 a car. we got off the interstate and i told him my clutch was not in any shape for another run, he told me he could smell it when we were running. im putting in my new clutch this friday and me and him are going to run at the local track. im thinking with the new clutch i should get him by about a car, but i bet he'll be alot faster without having 3 passengers. should be a good race next weekend

better bring your A game... unless you're running the 1/8th, it might get ugly in the 1/4

its and 1/8th lol, it seems my car has more low end then his, but on the top end he's got alot more, but that may be my clutch as it slips more at higher speeds, i also shift ALOT faster than him..even when he was ahead of me i'd pull on him everytime he shifted. lol

Why do you have a cam & ported heads with stock manifolds?

I ran a little hot cam in my Vette a few years back with some ported heads. Car trapped 114.2 on street tires & a mail order tune.

Good run! Should be a good race once the clutch is fixed.

With a better clutch, he shouldn't really be very close to you. With nothing but a lid conversion, LT's, true duals, a tune, and DR's on my car, I could hold my cousin's '98 SS A4 w/ lid, 3.73's, and exhaust off until I hit 5th, from a 20 roll. I would pull steadily from 1st through 3rd, to about a car and a half lead. Then, we'd stay right about there until the top of 4th, when he'd pull back and get around me. Before he got the lid, I actually had him up top even, before my lid conversion and tune.

That's a hotcam, OP said LT4 cam which is different.
The hotcam isn't horrible, I've seen a few folks make descent power with the RIGHT supporting mods.

OP, if he is anywhere near you with all things equal, I'd be

Infact it's not horrible at all. The HOT cam isn't that far behind even the biggest cams when it comes to "cam-only" LT1's. It's only so much power to be had with stock LT1 heads.

Yeah, most guys with a hotcam are going to see anywhere from 33Xrwhp to 34Xrwhp. Most of the time, a cam-only LT1 won't see much more than 350rwhp. There's been some higher, but a lot of it probably had to do with the dyno, and weather conditions.

I understand that but you see people referring to the hot cam as an LT4 cam & seem to think that the hotcam came in stock LT4s. I just made that assumption. Still does not explain WHY he is running stock manifolds.

first of all there is a big diff between lt1 and ls1 frankly the best place for an lt1 is a daily driver not in an up and coming drag car of any class

i haven't gotten around to throwing long tubes on yet, thats my plan after i finish the clutch, but i forgot how it is on here, locally i always just say LT4 cam, but it is the hotcam, and my car was dyno tuned right after the cam install and i put down 318 WHP and 302 Lb ft of TQ. does that sound about right? i was really hoping for more but i guess my clutch wasnt that healthy then either, and i also expected more torque? im hoping the long tubes and ORY will get that up a bit more. regardless stock clutch with 100K on it isnt a fan of mods haha.

A hotcam car is capable of probably 330-340 rwhp, so get a set of longtubes and a bench or dyno tune and the clutch fixed, the car will run much better.

Yea im heading up to use my buddys lift at 3 to do my clutch, then hopefully next weekend i can order some pacesetters and ORY, then i'll head out to C&S motorsports to put down some better numbers.

And if i can get the clutch broken in before tomorrow night im gonna get a re-match. i'll have someone get some video too.

I think you've got the right plan. Rreplace the clutch, toss in the new parts and then get it retuned and you'll probably see some gains. As for breaking in the clutch by tomorrow night, it's possible, but that's gonna take alot of driving
