Default SRT-8 vs. 5th Gen. SS

Cliff notes: 5th gen starts coming back at the top of his 3rd gear?
EDIT: I was running my 398/422 91oct tune, full tank and a trunk of "junk" (about 50-75lbs).

This long weekend I was in Mexico at an race event and saw something in the distance that looked wide, flat rear and stripes. Sure enough it was an SS who was up for some runs.

Unfortunately there were some obstructions that needed to be cleared so we only got one decent run in. Prior to that I was unable to go from 4th to 3rd so I got walked and never lined up except for another run.

We started at about 55mph. He said he was I/E but couldn't hear if it was tuned. He was new to the 3 honks too.

I immediately pulled and then paused waiting for him while he downshifted. I'm not sure if it was an auto or 6m.

Anyway, he started walking back up to me and we had to shut down at almost 110mph.

What I think is that once he hit 4th at about 110mph, I had another 10mph in my 3rd gear and would have pulled him. After that who knows?

It seemed like we were very evenly matched depending upon gearing.

Looking forward to another one.

4100lbs with CAI only and 2 gallons of gas + or - 20lbs per the scale I used. A little less since because the suitcase resonator was removed.

If you dont mind me asking what made you decide on picking up the SRT?

I wanted a magnum SRT8 SO SO BADLY but the lack of a manual trans killed it for me, just a personal preference of mine, its still a car i love.

I'd be curious to hear why from both of you. For the SS to to come up on me that quickly, it was undoubtedly in its powerband peak. Does that speed jive with the automatic?

Back in '05-'06, work required a 4 door. I personally wanted something that ran low 13s. Being a daily driver, traffic etc. dictated the transmission preference vs. an E39 M5 or CTS-V.

I also learned it came with a good suspension, Brembos, cool wheels, etc so it was an easy decision along with what I could afford.

If it was a year ago or so, a G8 GXP would have been a contender too.

I also figured at over 4000lbs, a manual, the way I drive, would have been rather silly. But then again, more fun at times.

i said a6 becuz all auto gms have crappy tunes from the factory and the shifting/reaction is sluggish which would explain why u pulled instantly than he caught back up. that and the fact u won becuz m6's do high 12s bone stock near ur trap speed so i dont see how u would take a i/e m6 with ur 91 tune.

just my 2cents

Hey Deuuuce: I'll be heading down your way on the 18/19th this month for my work: two weeks in Victorville/Palmdale just north of L.A. in support of the 787/ 747-800 (both in flight test prior to FAA certification for Boeing). I can swing thru San Jose if you want to meet up? Shoot me a PM of a nearby 3 star and I'll arrange it. Bringing my zx14 down in the back of a rental truck instead of flying-- hitting up my old haunting grounds (Willow Springs Raceways) for the two weeks I'll be down there.

San Jose is a bit too far to reach once I'm there since I'll be on call 24/7, so I can hang with you for a night on the way down or up. Sound good? Beer's and dinner for you and your significant other is on me! Deal? I just got to check out your SRT8... all the ones around where I live are pretty slow and modded by guys that dont know what they are doing.

Edit: I can also give you some cool *** videos of your car from my bike if you want to set up some races. I've got 3 different camera mounts and a bike that can circle your cars when you are WOT. Just like in Holleywood except you guys can actually BE WOT instead of faking it.

Double Edit: This also applies to ANYONE ELSE in the Bay area who wants to meet up with us! The more the merrier! Boeing's picking up the tab on this dinner invite. lol

No me first! LOL!

Sounds great! I've got it on my calendar!

Larkspur Landing in Campbell is a nice place, good location, etc.

If you can, try a track day at Laguna Seca, it's a wonderful track for a bike (as you well know).

Maybe. I was looking at their drag times. In good air I would be 112-113mph so it's very close.

It's a party! Are you in the south bay?

Is that Lazarus? If so, we've had multiple runs together. I pull him near the top of 3rd but he made some changes since then. It's been documented on the g8board/youtube.

Ike is the guy I'm referring to. We stay in touch and are due to run again.

It appears the A6 has similar gear ratios.
