First time at the track!
. Anyways i went with my SRT4 buddy and it was our first time running at the track. i was surprised to see nothing but compact hondas/nissans and a few blinged out s10's. This one guy with a highly modified ford focus walks up to me after watching me run a few times and wants a race. Well i figured this wasnt going to be good when a focus asking an ls1 camaro to race but i went along with it. As he was driving by i was checking out his car and there were no signs of a turbo but when he rolled up to the line & warmed up his tires i wasnt too surprised when i heard a nice turbo whine. From watching everyone run the track wasnt preped at all, even bolt on hondas were having trouble hooking up! Well we both time the lights nicely and launch off the line. we both could NOT hook up worth a **** in first gear but somewhere i got a little traction and pulled half a car on him, 2nd gear was equally bad, even with the wider than stock tires i was spinning. He managed to gain that half a car back early in 2nd gear, in 3rd gear i hooked nice and apparently he got a bit of traction too as we were dead even with me pulling between a half and a third a car length at the 1/4 mark. we raced a few more times with similar results and me missing 3rd on one of them. Well after talking to him & checking out what was under the hood i was shocked. He had a built engine that he said to have spent 6 grand on and he ran me on his low 15psi setting. (25psi is his high setting) He said he made 320 fwhp with equal torque on his low boost. But damn he had a nice engine bay, show quality for sure. With the money he spent on dyno tuning & upgrades over the years im sure he could of bought a $35,000 corvette with cash lol. It was just an interesting first race since ive had the car for about a week prior. I did race my buddy in his srt4 with a few bolt ons & a dsp tune pushing 20psi on his stock turbo beating him by 2 car lengths in the 1/8 mile. Everyone was telling me the track was slippery that night & after looking at my 9.135 1/8 mile timeslip with a 2.190 60 ft i was not happy. Not a bad first couple of kills
