Is it just me?
I've heard a fair amount of things from my friends about the people they run into when they're going places, and it just makes me jealous. I've owned my T/A for two and a half years now, and I've never had a street encounter. It's not like I don't use the car either (I've put 20k on it myself), but it's just never happened to me. My friends get more races in their cars (catback only SC300, stock Lincoln LS) and I'm wondering if it's just me or is it an F-Body thing?

The other 20% are initiated by people who think i'm a ricer. Usually its other imports, like the IS300 run i had the other night...or some fool in a 16 second ricebox who will lurch along side in traffic when there's nowhere to go.
I think your friends get more get more races for a couple reasons. #1 some people will not race unless they are 99.9% sure they will win, those people suck and we have all encountered them.#2 Intimidation...Scared of a trans am but they figure a 300 c is a four door tank even if they don't really know how fast they are.#3 some people wont race if they are a little sketched out to get busted.2 people racing cars that are a little more quiet and look more like family cars than race cars are less likely to get in trouble(attract attention)than 2 loud obvious cars.I cant tell you how many times some one with an equally fast or faster car wouldn't race me ,either scared to lose, get busted or my car just looks faster than it is...it's not hahaha. You are not alone .
I got plenty of races in my old 2000 hawk. Just gotta be at the right place at the right time I think. When I'd cruise to the local turnpike which is a big car scene, obviously I got plenty of races. Also, the 5:00 commute home from work ussually brings decent races once in a while but theres also traffic to deal with. If your mostly cruising around at 2 in the afternoon, then you won't find much. I swear I think theres a science to it! LOL.
I've gotten just a couple runs in my V.....I was only able to get ONE person to race me, that I didn't know and set up beforehand, until I got my exhaust. I would pull up beside a 260hp Mustang and downshift and they would just laugh like I was in a 3.8 V6 CTS...Now that the LS6 rumbles....They know I mean business....Still only about 1-2 out of 10 that I downshift on will take the bait.

Don't fret, a lot of times people turn everyday driving into a "kill story"
First question I ask is "did the other driver know you were racing?" Obviously, they say "Yes" so I ask "what speed did you roll from?" "how did you start?" They are going to answer you it's just do the answers make any sense.
Just always remember it could have been some old fart heading to the local coffee shop DOING THE SPEED LIMIT, that your friend "beat"

Only time I get a race now is when its set up before hand or friends with fast cars.Pretty much gave up on hunting for prey but if I see a fast car(domestic or import i don't care)I'll see if they're game but I have no expectations. Most people on the road don't know to match speeds and go from a honk any ways. The average Joe Blow usually thinks they are winning a race when they see you in the rear view mirror and they floor it (a chase is a race) to them.Usually a waste of time and an easy way to get popped by the fuzz!
When i still had my car i only had one race that wasn't going to the track or coming home from a meet. I can verify that i've had a few cars that i would want to race not take the bait and pull in to where i was going and tell me they knew it would be a waste to try once they saw the SS emblems. So that could go towards people being scared to lose even though the fact it was an ss means nothing.
I also had a kid in a z28 ls car trying to instigate a race once, we caught a redlight and he revved, i revved and it scared him so bad he wouldn't look at us anymore. My friend riding with me rolled the window down to try and get his attention but he just kept looking straight. Kinda what bamacaddy was saying.

I get all kinds of races in my gtp! But never get a race in my Z/28. Only races I get with the Z are my friends. But it seems like everyone wants to run my gtp. But that's ok, my gtp is pretty fast for a dd!
Honestly, I think a lot of people think twice about putting the hammer down for an extended time. Tickets and insurance are too expensive and loosing you license for 6 months would be hell in terms of getting back and forth to school or work.
I think if you head out at night, you will find more people willing to race.
