i got slain by a Mach 1 last night at the track, dude had nitrous, a super charger, and wrinkle wall hoosiers, thats only what i could see and hear (purge, and whistle)

 

2 tenths = "far behind". Noted. Guess that puts the LS1 in another time zone entirely in relation to a yote.

 

1998 there was no Mach 1 and the cobra wasn't giving an LS1 much trouble. Different times for sure.

 

The thing is a mach lays down pretty good up top. Mach 1 has pretty good 1-2 gearing to get them moving which is where the et is. After that the ls1 is coming......that will not be denied.

 

I don't know about "much," but I would expect a race between a slicktop 6spd LS1 and a new 5.0 to be closer than between a Mach 1 and the same LS1, everything else equal. In both cases, there is a clear "who should win." But drivers are rarely equal, even if it's the same person running both cars.

About as "fair" as he gets. Best runs for both, there is .2 and 5mph difference. That's no bueno for the Mach.

This is a very accurate statement. Ford designed the M1 around the 1/4. The 3.55 gears and the Tremec 3560 worked great for accelerating hard. In addition, the SRA was used for this car versus the Cobra's IRS. However, the biggest thing were the cams. They were really designed more for torque which complimented the gearing nicely.
Through the years though, many people swapped out the MACH cams for the 98 Cobra cams in order to bump the HP instead of the trq.

 

It's true I have a thing for the M1... I've always wondered how it would run with an LS1 in it (not to be **** anyone off, it's just that they ran so hard with what they made for power and my LS1 put down 324/341 stock so I've always been curious).

 

H/C LS1 ain't gunna have any trouble with a bolt on Mach lol

My GTP has about 320whp and probably close to 400wtq. It would run mid-low 12s easy with DR's.

 

Probably faster than low 12s if we are being completely honest here.
