Fun time with a 944
So I hop onto 94 south into Hanover, get to the Rutters and hang a left to take the real fun twisty back road out to Spring Grove and York. So I am heading up through the strip malls when I come up behind a pewter 944 Turbo. This thing was very nice with slightly wider wheels set at about 2 degrees negative camber and a blow off valve sound that makes dogs start to howl.
We are surrounded by traffic so I don't really think anything about it until I come to the last light in town and I see he's heading for the twisties also.
KOOL...
Then, before the light changes there goes a g-ddamn mini-van, a g-ddamn 90 year old couple and and a g-ddamn dump truck.
Sometimes it feels like these goobers are just hiding in the bushes waiting for you
Any way the light turns and head out of town. Neither of us is really doing anything (expecting those slow pokes to still be on the road
) Well the road straightens up and there is not one sign of anybody
Speed limit is about 40 here and I put the car into third gear waiting for the Porsche to make the jump. (The style of racing around here is to announce you want to race by simply punching it and asking questions later.) OK , nothing happens..................................nothing.. ............................nothing............... .........................
..............................right, now we're having fun.(sic.)Just as I'm about to shift to OD, I see a big puff of black smoke as we enter a rising right hander at about fifty. It takes the tranny a half second to downshift and I rocket through the turn about 5 cars or so behind him. Swing into a decreasing left that dumps into a nice dip (don't bottom out!!
) maxx out second, bang into third and up over a ***** bump road straightens out for about a quarter mile and I'vealmost gone half way through third. His lead has dropped to about 4 cars now which is fine, I don't want to get to close. Coming upto a sharp, SHarp, SHARP!! slightly rising left and I slam on the brakes and tuck up behind him by about one car length. A series of very tight left and right handers, lands us at about a hundred yard straight up a steep hill. He down shifts about half way through the turn and rockets away. I have to wait till I'm 2/3 through, then I floor it.
Car dumps into second and my rear starts to swing out to the left at about 60.
Oh shizzle my nizzle!!! I stay on the gas and counter stear.I would like to take a moment to thank my sponsers, Spohn poly/poly Adjustable LCA's, LG motorsports welded subframes and, of course the ever smiling SLP level one suspension package without whose generous participation in the build up of my car would have resulted in a set of messy shorts. Special mention must,of course be given to my set of Hercules SP750 rubbers
A short riser comes up that ends at a stop sign and we bring the parade to a halt. He hits his signal to go home and we both wave as we part ways.
You know, I have had this car for five years now. I've been 170 on the 275 bridge into St. Petersburg, FL. I've been to Maple Grove, Mason-Dixon, and Cecil County. I've done donuts in this car until the rear tires popped, and I have never had as much fun as I did running with that Porsche.
That is all.
Makes me wonder how I would of stayed if I had a six speed and some stickier tires.
