Decisions Decisions....
Well, right now im still working on paying off these credit cards before the 0% interest thing is over. I should be done with that in the next month or 2, so I have plenty of time to think this over. Right now im trying to decide what i want to build. I have a pretty much perfect, bone stock Z28 sitting in my garage that is more reliable then my g/f's accord (lately) that, as we all know, can be made fast without much trouble. Here is my dilema. My last car had the right motor, but all the wrong suspension, drivetrain, etc. It ran like *** and I just didnt have the time or the money that it needed. Also, it was no fun whatsoever to drive on a daily basis. I sold my bike because of all of the idiot drivers around here, but also I like the comforts of a car. The old mustang was pretty much like my bike, but i was in a cage. No AC, no radio, etc. Anyway, whatever I end up having, i want it to be fast enough to go out and have some fun, maybe have 10's in it's future. Right now im looking at 2 paths to take. On the first, I take the Z, do heads/cam, intake, TB, duals, n2o, etc. But i will definately keep all of the interior in, not put a cage in it and leave the AC, radio, and all of the factory options. I wont strip it in any way. My second option is to throw some exhaust on the Z28 and leave it at that. Maybe get some good tires and do some SCCA F Stock racing. And then go find a fox coupe, get a 351W and rebuild it, sell the FI stuff and get an intake/carb and a new fuel system and then build it up for a nitrous car. I could take everything out of it and put some 4:56 gears in it since i wouldnt have to worry about drivability. I know most people on here dont prefer Chevy, but thats not what Im asking, Ford vs Chevy. Im asking whether i should build up my current car as a respectable street car or leave it as is and build up a fox for a weekend car to take racing.
I was in the same dillemma, and I chose to make the Z a respectable street car. I guess the idea of having one car to fill up, one car to pay insurance on, one car to wash, etc., etc., got me. Plus, it was just too much fun building this up. You can make it FAST and still get damn good gas mileage...it's an amazing thing. I love LS1's, and coming from a Mustang, this car was just so much more rewarding. In my opinion, this will give you a chance to make the car unique because the streets are saturated with fox-bodies as it is. That's just me though. Good luck either way.
I would go with the fox body. Because even after you get all that power for your Z you are going to need a rear, clutch or stall depending on tranny, tranny rebuild if its an auto, steel shift forks for reliability if its an m6, and a bunch more suspension just to get it to not twist the body in two. You will also need suspension for the mustang but its so much cheaper. Everything about the car is. Shoot I bet you could pick up a dead mustang (blown motor) or even a 4cylinder notchback with a straight body and frame for under 1000. My close friend just bought a running 5.0 with a super straight body for 800 dollars. Granted it has some mechanical gremlins but if you are going to build a street beast everything is getting replaced anyway.
