All good advice and thanks again. I plan to look under the hood and check things out. Don't want to get hustled. Trying to set things up for Sunday night. Hope he shows so we can race. I'd still rather do it just for fun but this might teach him a lesson. Oh, get this, its not his car. He borrows it from Mom so I think I'll call his bluff on the cash. I want an emblem though.

 

His Mom's car??? Oh man, yea I'd say it's a bluff and call him on it and take his money. I only know a handful of females that would drive something like that and a couple who would trick out their ride... I'd take him with no cash... just them emblems.

 

Race for cash?? He's trying to back out and save face. I can speak from experience having owned a '99 Trans Am and now the '04 GTO. The TA is a few tenths faster.

 

Thats what a lot of people have told me on here as well as people who know him. I've called him on his bluff and told him I'd put up cash if he'd put up those emblems. Suppose to let me know something tomorrow. Really looking forward to it. Oh, by the way, had my first encounter with a pulley, tuned, full exhaust, cai, and geared 03 cobra. D@mn that was fun.

Okay i watched a 04 gto race an the new mustang GT and then he raced a mach 1. and he lost to both, but a good car-2cars. im thinking your pretty safe. id take his money. id still take a peek under the hood just incase he's lieing about it being momma's car. good luck man

Sorry, folks he isn't gonna race. I'm disappointed, but what can ya do. By the way to make a long story short, the Cobra walked me by 2. We never lined up. I caught up with it on a back road and after some high speed twisties, I floored it about 35 in 1st and started gaining (i was behind HER), went to pass but only got beside her. Stayed that way till I hit fourth and then she started walking me. Had to back off for another curve but she had me by 2 when she slowed down. I know the girl and the car I promise it does have that much power. I just had momentum and am a better driver. thats the only way I stayed with her that long. Equal drivers and that could have been a rather harsh beating.

 

You can take him. The best time I've seen for an 04 GTO was 13.8 not sure on the MPH, but I heard the stock susp is what screws up that car.

 

Which explains the red tag sale about 5 months ago. Brand new GTO'S with 2 miles or less on it......$ 23,000.

 

as long as you are a decent shifter you should probably take him...but beware the GTOs are quick...i was just down at the track last night and there was four of them---exhaust and an intake on most of them, maybe more- they were definitely all mid 13s and some were lower like 13.3 (the guy i went up against)

 

Thanks everyone for the support but he doesn't want to race. That doesn't mean I can't catch him on the road sometime and see what happens. He didn't like the idea of him possibly winning 100 dollars and me winning 35 dollars plus the emblems off the car.

 

A lot of guys on here seem to look down on the GTO... Personally I have not been beat by an SS or WS6 on the street yet. Not saying that it can't be beat but so far havent been. Here is part of a thread from ls1gto.com of a 04 gto against a ws6. Stock vs stock I'd say a drivers race... just my opinion and my experiences.(And I did own a 02 WS6)


"I raced a 2001 M6 ws6 three consecutive times at my local drag strip. With a good launch the O4 GTO can win from a dig. From a roll the ws6 should win no problem. Look at the traps of the ws6. I have a home made air intake. The ws6 had slp intake and slp exhaust. I squeaked out the two wins. In the second race you can see the Ws6 hunted me down and killed me.

Those are some pretty close times. Wish I could have been there. I like the GTOs but this guy is showing no respect. Someone someday will teach him.
