Default raced my first supra.

I was on my way to work when i see this Red late model supra get on the freeway. Emmediately I run to catch up. We ended up in moderate traffic, just sizing each other up. I see a clearing so i jump on it and make a hole for him to slide on by so we could us the open road up ahead.
We go from about 75 through 145 and I am freakin amazed I am even hanging with this guy cause it looked heavily modded. After the initial jump he put about 3/4 of a car on my then the whole way up to 145 i was right on his ***. we shut down cause traffic and exchange compliments then i go for the next exit cause i had aldeady passed my work. He jumps over a few lanes to follow me off. Right away he asks "WTF do you have in that thing, i couldn't shake you?" Nothing really, only exhaust and ramair(which is true). So i ask what the hell he is pushing. He says single turbo running 12psi. I ask what it puts down at 12psi and he says ??? but it put out 425hp at 10lbs on the dyno. Then he says let me get some 110 and push it to 28psi and i'll hit 850hp. (good thing they don't sell 110 from the pump)
My question is how the **** did i keep up with a car pushing at least 100 more horses. I was ****** shocked.

I dont know a ton about those cars but i think that 425 at 10 psi is a little sketchy. Taht is alot of power for a 3 liter and 10 psi. I know he had a big single turbo but still. My only guess is that he isnt makin that much power but obviously i havent a clue so who knows?

Gonna have to be nice sized single to do 425 at 10psi IMO. If he was being serious about 28psi and 850 to the wheels which is by all means believable, then perhaps it's big enough to hit that at 10psi. I'll have to agree with 99 and say I don't know if he was putting down that much because no offense, but 100 more rwhp should be enough to put a few lengths on you. BUT, regardless of what he did or didn't have, nice run and hanging with him

Thanks guys. If he was putting out what he said, which seemed to be what he believed then i really gotta get my car on the dyno to see what type of power it is putting down. He looked just as shocked as i did when i was talking to him. I also tryed from a stop when we got off the freeway but he wouldn't go.

Good luck with ever accomplishing that.

heh.
it's like this. Supras are more for highspeed running.
Not a drag race. When i was bone stock (just bought the car hours ago), i raced a TT supra making 25lbs of boost or some **** like that.
I murdered him from a dig. like literally, murdered him.
Then we took it to the freeway, and I'm suprised i still have a passenger side door

A buddy of mine has a Single turbo supra pushing 1.5 bar which is around 20psi i think, i and believe he is making around 450 or so to the wheels, with all the bolt ons. He is getting ready to upgrade to TT though here pretty soon and is talking about making 750rwhp on pump gas!!!

That sounds about right, with the right sized single ive seen a supra make like 550 to the wheels on pump gas, much more with 110 and N2O. Sounds like hes (the guy you raced) actually making less power than a stock turbo BPU car...

If he did have a turbo big enough to be hitting that kind of power @ only 10lbs (which was already siad is believable), the only way I could see you hanging is if he was not in the right gear. Lag from that big of a turbo could certainly have held him back. For EX- if he was making say 450 from 6k-7,5k and was only at 4-5k when you started the race, that would make since.

But since you ran to 145ish, I would still think that he would have put it on you pretty good once he got into full boost.......doesn't really make any sense?? He either doesn't know what he's talking about or he was f'n with ya.

Who knows??? Good run!

Oh, and usually Sup's don't "upgrade" to TT since that's what they come with factory. They make much more power with a single T set-up than they ever could with TT.

Not entirely true about singles making more than twins, but entirely possible.

If he had less power than a full BPU car ON RACE GAS, then it's not surprising that he still hung rather than pass him. Race gas on the stock twins can easily do 400rwhp+, and a little less than that is still in the upper tier of 300rwhp realm.

what does BPU stand for? I know it is the higher powered one but what exactly does it have that makes it different?

Upgrading to a TT setup on a supra would be like on of us upgrading to an LT1, dosnt make any sense.

Basic Performance Upgrades... I believe. Pretty gay if you ask me. For some reason only the Supra guys seem to have these BPU's.

The only thing gay about it is that it's now TRADEMARKED. BPU is basically intake, exhaust, boost controller... bolt-ons.

And TT upgrade is NOT like going backwards, the turbos are bigger for one thing...

Not if dj just has a bolt-on ls1... The supra term BPU means stocks twins with some upgrades to exhaust and higher boost. They can and usually make 380 to 450 rwhp, some add spray and make 550 to the wheels... Not every Supra is modded or runs properly however, I took a single turbo supra that had made almost 700 to the wheels once, it obviously wasnt running quite right though, my car makes quite a bit less. thats why we race! Nice kill!
