Played with a C6
Well tonight I went for a drive after I got out of work to try and relax a bit before I had to go home and write a paper. Well I was maybe two minuets into my drive when I see this brand new (still had its temp tags) silver convertible C6 Corvette. I didn’t pay it much attention until it flew past me and lined up next to a 350 Z. They both took off and needless to say the C6 won, the passenger was leaning over the side of the car waving at the poor 350 Z.
At this point I am thinking what the hell he passes me to go play with a 350 Z! So after I pass a few other cars I get up next to the C6. He doesn’t even look over at me until I down shift into second at about 45. Finally they both look over and kind of smile, we both punch it, we stayed dead even, neither of us gaining or loosing. I just stayed right on his bumper where I was when I went WOT, but we only made it to about 55-60 before we hit a red light.
At this point I am just excited and couldn’t believe the luck, both of us being stopped at the same light. Well the two guys in the C6 were flirting with some girls in the car next to them, looked like they knew each other. So when the light turns green we both kind of rolled off the line, me a little bit in front, then we hit it, and again the same results. I slammed it into second, got some nice tire chirp, then a truck comes from the other side of the road and comes into my lane, race over. By this time there wasn’t going to be another chance to race since we had entered a part of town where it just isn’t a good idea to race, lots of clubs, people, and cops. As I got beside them again we both waved at each other and went our separate ways.
What a fun night! This was my first real race against a worthy opponent that wasn’t a friend. The Corvette has every disadvantage possible, convertible, passenger, and automatic. The guys in the C6 were really cool and I didn’t expect to keep up with a C6 at all. I am still shaking, just a bit of an adrenalin rust!
