Default First encounter with GTO 6.0

T-tops town, headed toward yesterday around 6pm. I round a corner into a stoplight turnin left, and in the inside left-turn lane stands a bright red LS2 GTO. The Toyota Prius in front of me reads my mind quite well and leaves the the outside L-turn lane as he goes behind the GTO (Thank you hybrd! ). Driving up next to them i quickly change the song on my CD from Rap to Rock (Creme: Tale of Brave Ulysses). From what i could tell he had exhaust, dunno what else. Well after a few seconds of nodding/acknowledgement of two race-worthy cars, I sit and wait, and so do the two guys in the GTO. Light FINALLY turns green, we finish our left turns, im still in first and waiting for him to go, his rear bumper and my front wheels b/c he was in the inside lane. Then they punch it... and get about a length on me.

The second i hear them go, i drop the hammer and break the rear tires loose from 2.5k-4k (woohoo!), when i catch traction and finish first gear, i've put a length on them, and put about another half-length on them somehwere in second, we stay there and continue to run to about 75mph and slow down as not to kill ourselves when cars finally started appearing in front of us.

The look of surprise on their faces was pretty priceless, and I was so thrilled i finally got to do battle with an LSx car that all i could say was a very enthusiastic "GOOD RUN".

98 TA (Mods in Sig) vs 04+ GTO (exhaust, ?)+ uphill 2-lane 10mph-75mph... Mystic for the close win!

the 6.0 is the ls2 which was 2005 and up I think. If it was a 2004, that would be a 5.7L ls1. I think the newer ones have hood vents.

Good kill whatever it was.

oops, thought they had the LS2 in 04... Well it was an 05+ GTO, said 6.0, and had the scoops. In bright red it didnt look too bad, almost wanted one for a second...

It saw a ls2 gto at the track last night that couldn't break 100 in his traps. It was really confusing as I've seen them go 105 completely stock with a heavy driver...

i suppose labeling that "driver error" would be a good use of ironic understatement . Their pretty sweet cars, i think the LS2s dropped them into the low 13's, yea?

Yep. Great drivers get very low 13s, I've heard as low as high 12s.

if you can launch it you can break 12's. They're a great car, just tricky to get off the line.
