Well, the truck's no doubt running good after I got some break-in miles on it, it was time to see what the new setup had....

Got a buddy who just got a single cab SRT-10 Ram a few weeks back and has since put Billy boat long tubes and Bassani full exhaust with catless mids etc etc... he also has a volant CAI... We went from about a 40 roll this weekend and we stayed dead even until he shifted into 3rd and began to pull slowly... by 100, I was on his quater panel... Not bad for a cam only STOCK 5.3 with just some drivetrain mods... probably would have been even closer if we would have gone from either a little slower, or faster... 40 is a pretty good dead spot, even with this converter. 20mph would have put me in 1st gear pretty good and anything over 50 would have landed me in the sweet spot of 2nd... anyway... either way around, I got beat, but I consider it a worthy death...

And for the obvious... A guy I know keeps talking all his **** about his Rustang... how awesome the "cams" are and how he beats up on 'vettes and vipers all the time... ... so I pointed out to the parking lot and told him... there's a stock 5.3 Chevy truck out there that'll run ******* circles around your slow ***.... Knowing what you know about your average mustang owner.. you already know, this guy's foaming at the mouth to go outrun a truck... hell... any Chevy for that matter.... So I get off work, go warm the truck up... at this point, he's got no clue whats done to the truck... so I start it up... and the very first words out of his mouth are, "you expect to beat me in that!?!?... its not even running on all 8 is it?" I told him, "Well, I'll do what I can on 6 or 7 cylinders to hang with you for a while... " so after it idles and warms up, it finds its 725RPM idle and its metronome-like lope... I can tell he's getting nervous because he was talking to a guy I work with and he was telling him about how I just got it put back together blah blah... the guy tried to back out of the race... but I kept feeding him a line and telling him how it still wasnt tuned and everything....
-So we make our way out to I-564 (you locals know this road well) we come under the runway tunnel and give it 3 honks and go... he quickly disappears into the rear view... he gets up next to me and says he missed a shift. So I told him... You name the race... he says, ok... how bout we go from 60... I just grinned and said... lets go... we turn around, quickly get to 60... honk and go... I grab 2nd gear, and leave him faster than before... he's pissed... and swaers I sprayed him on both runs... we pull over, I told the guy. Fine, you hold my bottle in your car and we'll go... did the same race from 60... with the same outcome... before he turned off, I leaned out the window and told him... not bad on 6 or 7 cylinders huh???? He wants to look under my truck this week sometime for a hidden nitrous system... LOL... nothing hidden here... all my spray is out in the open and was never even used for that matter. I asked him to turn his Mustang sweatshirt inside-out from now on every time he's in the shop... and I'll even give him a Chevy hat to wear

 

You must have sprayed the srt10. Nice runs.

 

nope... all motor... my switches arent even in the truck... my bottle's been sitting full since October. havent sprayed it since the last time on the dyno. You also have to consider, I probably have ~800#'s on him.... not to mention his heavy *** stock 22's to my 16" Tahoe wheels...

 

Sounds like a pretty fast truck. You near Richmond?

 

I am leaning toward him being a horrible driver. He has over 100hp on you. Cam only 5.3 doesnt have a chance agains a modded regular cab srt10....at least it shouldnt have a chance. Anything can happen though. Once again, nice runs.

I may have been a tad misleading.... Sry... cam, springs, full bolt ons, long tubes, ORY, 3" single exhaust, 3600 converter, 4.10's, and tuned 5.3 LOL.... yeah, he may have ~75-100hp on me but I definitely have weight on him.... by a pretty good bit. I wouldnt exactly say he's got too many mods... just CAI and exhaust...

What whp are you putting down with that setup? I didnt know there was that huge of a weight difference in regular cab dodge and chevy...at least not 800-1000lbs anyway. Im still leaning toward him needing a driver mod and the race wouldnt have been that close.

 

before the cam and with the old converter (PI3200) It was at 343/383 on motor and 426/506 on the spray with a very safe conservative tune... I've since gone to a 224/227 .576/.588 113+3 cam and Yank SS3600 converter. I dont know where I'm at now. Either way... its respectable even if the guy couldnt drive very well.. he's only had the truck 3 weeks and he's still really getting used to it himself. oh well... we can slap on some slicks, and take it to the track and then see where he fares... I'm sure the outcome will be different... Its cool if you think it should have turned out differently, or even if you flat out dont believe me... Thats fine with me... all I know is what I saw next to me...

as you should know suspension setups play a pretty big part... mine's not stock either

are you aware that the QC SRT's weigh almost 5700#'s????? the reg cabs are well in excess of 5K, race weight, mine's right at 4100, I'm guessing street weight, I'm around 4500.... so yeah, thats about a 1K difference give or take...

I said I think anything can happen on the street. Your numbers are really high for the mods I think. Sounds like a mean truck.

 

Yeah, I plan on running... along with a few buddies from performancetrucks.net... I'll also be there for FFW... a friend of mine is making me go... he hates Chevy's, I hate Fords... I'm dragging him the SCS to be my pit so I'll have to go for him too... LOL... should be interesting

Thanks man... I realize the dyno is a tuning tool so I dont put too much stock in those numbers honestly. I am impressed with the way it runs now. still does need a lot of work on the tune. Its pig rich right now.

 

 

Let me get this straight......you have a fairly nicely modded truck and you told a mustang 2V that it was stock, then continued to talk crap after you killed him?.....sorry, but I hate it when people have a modded car and LIE about it. What happened to run what you brung? Don't get me wrong...any and all EGO freaks deserve an *** woopin', but come on. Misleading?..just a tad. Nothing against you personally..but I would never lie about my mods..to me, that is ***** play. Why lie?....there is always someone faster out there, so what does it matter if someone knows what mods you have.

he took one look, and laughed at it... the truck looks stock with some drop and window tint... thats pretty much it, and thats honestly what I love about it. stock wheels, no crazy exhaust exits, nothing... the motor in it is bone stock original, except for the cam and valve springs... which I told the guy about... but give me a break... if he "claims" he's running C6's and vettes off the road and making them look silly, then he shouldnt have had a problem handling me either way then right??? All I really significantly have is a bunch of drivetrain mods... shouldnt have been a problem for the "snake killer" as he has on his back glass.... I have seen the bottom of his car because I work at the shop he was at... I know what was in it... so I told him to bring it... and he didnt... I wasnt trying to "lie" to the guy, or sucker him into a race... I was just trying to let him know he wasnt the big badass he thought he was...

-and I know there are PLENTY of guys' cars and trucks both that are faster than mine... I am on performancetrucks after all... LOL... I'm not anywhere near some of those dudes...

 

Good kill. What ET's you running? I want to compare them to a local 5.3 truck I know that runs pretty good for what it has.

12.7X's at 115... on a 125 shot, the cam has grown up now and the shot has too... so I'm guestispeculating... 12.30's???? I dont really know...
