Default Killed a viper

Got the chance to race a viper at the strip in cordova on friday night. I think the viper was a 99 SRT10 (silver looked sweet). Any way I killed him on the light and beat him by about 3 1/2 cars. The viper ran quicker than I did but I got to the finish line first and that is all that matters.
Times-Me 12.21 1.71 60' at 113 Viper 12.16 at 118

This was diffenetly the highlight on my night. Oh and I pulled the wheels about 2 in off the ground on all motor. I love this set up.

Sounds like you raced a bone stock 99 rt10 like mine..

11.7-12.3 at 116-120 is what they usually hit bone stock depending on weather/conditions/driver..

AWESOME KILL and I know that one felt good..

Were you on the spray or NA????

Got him by 3 1/2 car , pretty good. Sounds like he was coming on fast though, totally reeling you in. Good thing you cut a sweet light and 60' time. Good kill on the nasty snake.

Let me start this off by saying in no way do I mean disrespect or want to argue! Now that is out of the way...
I have never seen a stock Viper hit times like that, not even one. Last time I took my Z28 to the track I ran a 04 Z06 and a 02 Viper, both of which were running 12.8+ to my 12.6's.

I dont know man...It's all in the driver. Last time I went to the strip their was a guy in a juiced 05 GTO running 13.5 at 112 mph...

It's all in the driver. At the same track my bone stock C5 was running 13.5 on the same night..

EVAN smith ran an 11.7 at 120 mph in a bone stock 2001 viper..Car and driver as well as popular science also ran 11.9 at 119-120 mph in bone stock vipers..

Think about it for a second. My car weighed 3380 from the factory. it dynoed 410/465 SAE from the factory..

410/465 SAE rwhp and 3380 pounds is an 11 second car all day long with a good driver. Now putting 465 rwt to the ground on a bone stock1996-2002 viper with an average driver isnt easy

yup. driver mod is great. last time i was at the track i saw a C6 Z06 with paper tags turn an 11.6 then right after a turbo srt10 viper run an 11.8. HP is nothing without two things. traction and skill.

AGREED..

FWIW

Here in Hawaii always at the same location wich is 1000 ft elevation in consistent 75 degree weather I would go and use my cicuit city Gtech ytpe unit..

I tested it out at the strip and it was always within 1 tenth and 1 mph of my actual time slip Id roll around and pick up 30 seconds later..

ANYWAYS..

When I first got my Viper I was running 13.2 at 114 mph..Pretty shameful. After around 10-15 runs I finally cracked a 12.9 at 114..Still pathetic since I could run a 12.8-12.9 at 110-112 mph in my auto H/C c5 just about every time with the same Gtech at the same location..

Thena week or two later and a good 15 more 1/4 mile runs I finally got to be a pretty consistent 12.7-12.9 at 115-116

Then arouns 6 weeks ago i cracked my first 12.6 at 116 mph..

Extremely frustrated I seeked advice and found that my shifting of 5300 rpm's was WAYYYY to early...

Tried it like this and hit a 12.5 at 117...

The oem tires were just killing me..Id spin through 1st 2nd and then chirp 3rd but still pull mid 12's around 117..

Finally i said screw it and started burning out the old OEM pilots before each run. this resulted in 12.4 at 118..

Stuck around this 12.4-12.6 at 116-118 range for a week or two and then 20 practice 1/4 miles later my shifting and launches started getting much better..

Im now to the point were I can pull a 12.2-12.4 at 120-122 mph every time. i still spin through 1st gear and some of second but ive got my 60 fts down to 2.1's now...

With DR's or a prepped surface the car is 11's no problem..But with OEM tires and a reg street non preeped surface Im happy with my 12.2's for now..But hoping with afew more weeks of practice and 20 more 1/4 mile atempts or so 11.9 on reg oem tires and a regular street road will soon be mine...

The point of all this is I HAVE NO PROBLEM BELEAVING YOU SAW GEN2 VIPERS RUN 12.8 PLUS...I WAS ONE OF THEM ONLY A FEW MONTHS AGO..

but once they learn to tame the beaste it is a high 11 to low 12 car..12.4 at worst..

Once I get to a prepped drag strip and at sea level im predicting an 11.9 at 123 mph on the stock tires. Imdefiently practicing at 15 1/4 mile attempts per week.LOL

Dont know if the car was stock I did not ask but there was alot of fast cars at the track on Friday. Viper was on DR. I was all Motor with ET Streets. Saw a 03 cobra with a KB 2.8 blower run 10.50 at 122 the car was sick and I hate mustangs.
