Default First kill...I guess

I've had my car since last October and haven't been challenged by anyone on the street. Today I went to Lebanon Valley Dragway in upstate NY to watch some guys from the forums run their cars. I was heading home on Route 20 heading back to Mass. Near the Mass/NY border Rt 20 turns into a pretty steep winding road, with two westbound lanes going uphill.

Up ahead of me I see this jacked up redneck pickup with a loud exhaust. He's behind a van in the right lane and he changes lanes suddenly and makes a big show of passing this van. I'm thinking "what a tool" so I speed up a little and move up on him, and just pass by him slowly on his left. I get about one carlength ahead of him and sure enough I hear him hit it.

I give it a little gas and look in my sideview mirror and he is closing on me, and at that point I just said "**** it" and mashed it. We were going about 55-60 mph, and whatever he had couldn't catch an LT1 at that speed. I was pulling him pretty good when we came to the next bend, and I had to let up a little because I could feel the car running out of cornering traction, I was probably doing about 80 through a curve marked 45, maybe even faster. Once the road started to get twisty he couldn't hang, next curve was even tighter (marked 35 mph) and by then he was fading into the distance. I had the t-tops out, I thought about waving, but I'm really not the type. Obviously it wasn't a fair fight anyway. But he did ask for it.

When it comes to street racing, I'm surely old enough to know better, but when he tried to run me something...ego, pride, whatever...got the better of me. And I have to admit, it was one hell of a rush. It gets some adrenaline going just recounting the whole story. Must sound silly coming from a noob who got hit a ground ball, but I know it's an experience I won't soon forget. I just count myself lucky the cops didn't see it and I didn't buy the farm.

So I guess that's my first kill story.

Good kill.
I don't blame you for taking the risk, WE ALL DO IT, as long as we're smart about it. The rush is awesome and after a hard day of work it definately makes everything better.

Get yourself some KDW2's if you plan on street racing. I drive up to Texas A&M every once in a while and I have to go through a road that's marked 35 and 45 in a few spots. I like to hit about 80 on the 45's.
