How fast are the 06 STI's
How does an 06 STI compare to a lid only 98-02 Z28/Trans AM ? I know an F-Body is a solid 13.0 - 12.90 car. I can't for the life of me find out what the STI's run. I saw a vid of a 13.8 with a horrible launch, dudes talking about 13.5's, and then the STI patriots claiming "omg they run 13.1 ALL DAY DUDE!!"
So whats the deal with them, I might wanna get one but not if there alot slower then a Z. Google has failed me so maybe LS1 tech can shine some light here.

real life, mid 13's mostly. skilled drivers, low 13's. same as with the ls1 fbodies. but ls1's respond way better to mods. bottom line. but if you're into like rally racing or something, i guess the sti is better.

50 WHP for two bolt-on mods is pretty good (down-pipe then a tune). A general rule is that F/I cars respond much better than N/A cars for bolt-ons.
13.1 requires a very skilled driver. Much more skill and practice is involved in getting an STi to run that time than an LS1 F-body.
I would say the same driver who gets a 13.5 out of an M6 LS1 would run say a 13.7-8 in an STi.
OP, in terms of 1/4 mile, they are very close with an F-body trapping higher. However, on the street, be very careful when racing one where the driver knows how to drive it. An STi can still pull a 1.7-1.8 60 footer on street pavement while I would estimate that when I would go from a dig on the street in my old F-bodies, I would lose at least .2-.3 seconds due to trouble in first gear.

Their not bad, but if I was looking I would get an Evo over an STi. I know when I bought my 03 Evo they were cheaper and respond better to mods. My buudy has an 04 Sti and I would beat him with the same mods on our cars. I dont think they are that hard to launch, yeah irt will take getting used too but its not thats bad. My buddy has a Evo 9 and only had it for a few thousand miles and was launching like a bat out of hell.

With a turbo back exhaust and tune, they jump to around 260-270awhp (depending on dyno). My buddy's stage II+ tbe, eBay tmic, walbro fuel pump, p&p'ed exhaust manifold, gm boost controller, k&n typhoon intake, and a tune was over 320awhp and 340awtq. The cool part about the subaru's is with the new openecu software, it is around $75 to tune the car, but can jet up past $1k depending on the different methods of controlling the ecu (accessport, utec, ecutek, hydra, etc).
Long story short, from a dig watch out, from a roll you will win. If both cars are relativly stock.

here is a dyno of my buddies 07 sti with intake, downpipe and catback.
first line is untuned, second is tuned. go drive one and see how you like it. i thought it was cool but not cool enough for me to sell mine and get one
yea I agree has to be good drive to be consistant
I bet 2 so far by 4 cars first guy did'nt know how to drive and had the nerve to show in front of his girl so I released the beast on him but one thing if they don't hook up right they wiil booge at the line. those STI's are good high performance AWD cars,but theres notthing like the beast of an LS1 powered Camaro. I mean some of those tuner cars spen thousands to get were we are already bone stock and we just spend a few hundred bucks and instantly you gain very noticiable gains

I am dying to find out what they have. There is a sweet looking 05 White STI in my apt. complex. Im gonna go ask the guy if he wants to head out to the highway one day......
I remember a video on streetfire of a guy trying to dump the clutch at full throttle on an sti and he either blew the tranny or the clutch, but the car didn't go anywhere after that. Those hard launches look like they put a thrashing on that awd drivetrain.
