As many of you may already know, Having a V8 vette or F-Body is almost like an open invitation for someone wanting to race you. Its kinda getting annoying for me. Especially when people are trying to race you in cars such as an oldsmobile alero, which I experienced yesterday. I dont mind racing mustangs or other F-Bodies.. Sometimes even vettes (which I just do it knowing I will lose when its against anything thats either a C5 or C6). But when its peoples everyday drivers that are not even a performance car.. Thats when I kinda get annoyed. This has happened to me many times before. I usually get one everyother week. And Half the time, I dont know that i'm supposed to be racing them.

I pulled off the highway today when I was taking my 98 Z28 out for a spin and an alero turned into the passing lane since I was in the right lane. About 200 feet from the exit, Theres a stop light and when ever you have the green light to get off the express way, that next light is typically red. I went to change the channel on the radio and then the light turns green. He goes WOT and then turns his blinkers on to signal a victory about 400 feet later.. I sitting in my car like WTF?!?! I was just going to laugh it off and not do anything about it. I stay in the right lane and about 3 miles up the road, theres another light. It was red, So I look over and he seriously thought he beat me. He then laughs. Kinda made me mad. I wasnt in the mood for beating a daily driver, even this cocky one, but I was pretty annoyed. I probibly would have let it go if he wouldnt have turned his blinkers on. Light turns green. I didnt know if he was going to try to race me again, so I didnt really launch. once I see him go WOT, I decide to go as well just to shut him up. I left him way behind. Not to sound like I'm actually proud of beating an alero though. They are nice daily drivers.. but not race cars!

And like I said, this isnt the first time this has ever happened to me too, as many of you probibly experience too!

Most of the time I just let it go and let them think what they want, because its not worth getting the ticket. But I am getting sick of people wanting to race me all the time in cars that most of the time dont even have 200 horses!

Now on the other hand, I dont mind racing V8 Mustangs, V8 F-Bodies, and even vettes (although I always lose to the C5s, never raced a C6, but I know they would leave me in the dust.)..

I'm almost thinking of taking the badges off my 95 and 98 Z28 to try to make it into a sleeper and reduce the number of people trying to race me, although they still will sound like V8s though. I found that I do not get as many people trying to race me in my 94 Camaro V6 as I do in my 95 and 98 Z28s. Maybe this would work, maybe not.

How should I deal with these people? I need advice. Or in other words, How do you deal with this when your on the road?!?! I know it has probibly happened to a lot of you too! What should I do?

 

You're mad because people want to see what your car gots? Just give it a little gas and leave em alone,i'll race a minivan if they ask for it,hahaha

 

I do the same thing to people when I'm in my Honda. It's pretty fun.

 

I didnt mean to sound like an *** though.. But I didnt really look at it from theirs. Good point.

But like I said though, It can get annoying from time to time. Not always, but sometimes.

 

this happens to me all the time ! i have a 95 formula and i think alot of people think its a v6 bc i dont have dual exhaust outlets yet...but it still has some rumble so i dont get it...ive had a civic,altima,hemi truck,some 4door chevy truck X2,98mustang gt.there is probably some others im not thinking about...anyway,i just give them what they asked for and hopefully they feel as stupid as they seem afterwards! and with any luck they might learn a lesson in hp(yeah right). some of these people DO NOT have comprehension skills,i swear.when a 4 cylinder tries light after light to beat you when you just keep walking him,there is definitely some lack of synapsis going on...

Yeah happens to all of us. I would not take off the badges though, least from what i have heard around here. Kids like to pick on things they can beat, so I would think that if they think its a V6 they are going to try and race you. But I am the same way as you, just let em go, especially if its someone in a mini van.... yeah it happened to me lol.

 

I dont get it...No one trys to race me around here.
Funny thing is I have a friend who owns an 04 Nissan Titan and he thought that truck would destroy anything that tried to race it. He told me stories of turbo Hondas that he beat and they didnt have a chance in hell.

Well one night I told him lets race so he can show me how much power that Titan has, we get up to a stop light and he stays next to me up to 30 then I gradually begin to pull away from him and he tried 3 times after that with the same results everytime, from a roll around 30 it was no contest...lol.
His excuse was tire spin which I did not hear.

Really funny thing is he has a 2000 Intrigue that he blew the motor in and he told me once he gets that repaired he will definitely beat me, he plans on getting a supercharged engine for it...hes funny. If he in fact does get the supercharged engine im sure it will then be an interesting race.

Dont get me wrong the Titan is a really nice truck and I would love to own one and the same for the intrigue but again they were not built to be raced.
If he likes them and thinks they are fast then its his cars so more power to him.

 

yestuday this girl at a light tried to race me in her DD and she goes wot and I only go 1/2 throtle and beat her by a few cars lol, its funny how some people actually think they are driving a fast car when in reality its a slow pos

i like to sit at lights and when they rev at me i act like i'm going to launch, then just take off easy. they go flying off. one dude got a ticket. lol. they will never get it.

Actually even knowing I would lose I would still race somebody except for the idiots that want to race you when there is traffic not even 30 yards ahead.
My last car before my Camaro and Mustang was a 93 Mark VIII, I knew it wasn't that fast but a guy in a 99+ SC Cobra wanted to race and I told him **** it I would lose anyways but it should be fun. We ran from a dig and he spun and that ******* noise from his SC was enough to make me run home and **** my wife...hmmm anyways back to the story, after he got traction he blew past me after I was 2 cars ahead of him from the light. Funny **** and it was all in fun and he gave me a thumbs up.

Bring your Mustang and lets do this! It would be interesting to get my *** kicked by a 4 cylinder Mustang, I think it would be funny. I would even video tape that **** for the forums.

I try not to be bothered but with my g\f if it runs she chases, but i think this happens to everybody, for instance we were having a quiet drive the other day just minding our business with 2 cars infront and a sharp right hand turn up ahead, when the car up front goes straight on, the guy infront (new golf TDi) goes tire squeeling into the corner and hammers it! this is a long twisty road with plenty of tight left handers, needless to say my g\f chases his *** down into the turns, she's a damn good driver and almost scares the **** outa me sometimes! By the way anyone who says f-bodys can't handle in the twisty's needs to take a ride with her, but you may come close to browning your pants! Anyway when we get back on a straight this guy darts off down a side street, he was really trying bless him! also had an MG roadster & Toyota suv try running from us aswell in the same weekend Oh well! it's something to do i guess

 

No ****. Well if it happens please keep me in mind, that would make for some great footage.

 

It all depends on if the army wants to send me there..its my first choice...
