Angry ABS brake problem...

Ok...this question isn't about an LSX based vehicle but I have tried evrything to solve my problem and can't figure it out. With the wealth of automotive knowledge here, I'm sure someone can send me in the right direction so, here we go...

Lately, while driving my DD (2000 Chevy S-10 ZR2), the ABS has been activating prematurely. When you "brake" the ABS will kick in when it's not needed. I have changed the ABS Module and installed a new Master cylinder which did not help. I cleaned the front ABS sensors and replaced all four brake pads. I still cannot track down the problem and it's driving me crazy! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I say it is probably a front wheel speed sensor or hub. It would be nice to take it for a drive with a scan tool logging the sensors while the problem is happening. There are a few things you can check. Inspect the sensor wires for any cracks or breaks.Make sure there is no play in the front hubs, if there is play sometimes this will cause false readings. Use an ohm meter and check the resistance of the speed sensors usually they are around 1000 ohms. When you said you cleaned the sensros do you mean you pulled them out of the hubs??? I would make sure the mounting area where the sensor goes into the hub has no rust and the sensor is sitting all the way in with the tab flat and not curved up allowing the sensor to pull away from the reluctor wheel. Sometimes it rusts here and the build up pushes the sensor out of the hole.I may have a new sensor I could send you not sure what they are worth.

I actually pulled both sensors out to clean them. I did check the wheel hubs and sensor wires when I did this. They both seemed fine and couldn't find any cracks or broken wires. Do you think that it could be the rotors themselves causing a false reading?

How was the mounting surface where the sensor go through the holes.any rust build up? I don't think the brake rotors could cause this problem.

The mounting surface was ok. There was a little rust and crud built up but nothing major. I cleaned them up pretty well and the sensors seemed to mount flush to the surface with no problems. The reason I was thinking the rotors, is because of how the reluctor ring looked through the sensor mounting hole. There looked to be alot of grease and build up in there. I never removed the them to get a real good look though. Is the rotor and the reluctor ring one unit or does the ring detach from the rotor?

A ZR2, huh? What sized tires are on the vehicle? Thank you.
