Default Power Steering going out.

After a spirited drifting session, my powersteering pump started acting up. It seems to fail at idle, but comes back up once the RPM's are above 1K. Also, everytime I make it a turn it whines like a ****.

What are you suggestions? Is there a cheap part that would fix it, or do you think the whole pump assembly needs to be replaced?

TIA!

You can patch it and chase the problem or you can fix it ONCE and be done with it ...

Mitch,
Thanks for the post. looks like a great replacement for my P-O-S pump, but I have a couple of questions...

Is there a warranty that comes with TO pump?

How much of a compromise is the TO pump for daily drivers? I noticed that someone mentioned a harder steer across the RPM range.

Thanks again.

No warranty that I'm aware of. You might ask.

I haven't had an issue with my pump.

I suggest you spring for the billet pulley as you will more than likely destroy the plastic stocker getting it off.

I received my TO pump this past friday and installed it the same day. Install was easier than I was expecting. Taking off the stock pulley was a breeze with the pulley puller I borrowed from Oriely's. I went ahead and paid for the billet pulley from T.O. anyways and I'm glad that I did. This thing looks freaking awesome. All I need now is a Power Steering Oil Cooler. Time to go autocrossing/drifting

Thanks for the suggestion Mitch!

Very cool ...

Have you tried idling along in 1st gear and turning the wheel like turning into a parking place? Any noticeable difference in steering resistance?

There is a very very small amount of additional resistance compared to stock, but my wife didn't think there was. I turned the wheels while sitting still a few times also with no real difference.

I just hope this pump don't give out also.
