Towing with the camaro
we actually rebuilt our 97 GMC suburbans, the trucks have higher strength gears they used in the trucks, the vette and camaro gears are different from the truck. so basically your saying all 4l60e trannys are interchangeable? the truck and camaro trans even look different
The only truck transmissions I know of that have two different gear sets are the th400's that have either straight cut or angle.
If your truck 4L60E looked different from a car 4L60E that you need to learn a few things.
1. V6 4L60E's have a different bellhousing bolt patterns, input (even those have the same gears as a 4L60E from behind a LS1 and truck)
2. Around '97 the design changed from a non removeable bellhousing with a four bolt extension housing to a removeable bellhousing and a six bolt extension housing.
3. As an example, a 1999 Gen1 sbc vortec truck 4L60E uses the same input found in every 4L60E and 700R4 back to 1984 1/2.
A 1999 LS1 4L60E uses a different input, pump stator, converter, etc. And the V6's use even one different than those two.
Have a builder in the trans forum verify this info.
All four pinion planetary gear sets from the 1982 700R4's up to the 2002 f-bodies are all exactly the same. They later upgraded to five pinion.

How can anyone think it's smart to try and tow a car with a car that's only rated to tow about 1000 pounds max. And the only hitches made for the F-body use 6 bolts in the unibody, and are also rated at about 1000 lb. limit. Sure, toss 3 times that on there.... see what happens. And if god forbid you have an accident and live, because you'd be sued to the poor house for negligence for trying to move that much weight with something not cleared for it.
Do the bus thing. Have a friend drive one, and drive him back, or put them on a bus..... For the love of god, don't try something so silly. This has nothing to do with the fact a Camaro could *move* such a load..... A Ferrari could do it too, would you pull with that?

First you need to find a hitch reciever for the camaro.

Thats the highest rated one for the car, a class one (which is the lowest rating). 2000 pounds total, 200 pound tongue.
It's not a matter of the transmission or engine of the camaro, 1/2 ton trucks could tow the honda with the same transmission.
It's a matter of attaching the honda to the camaro, and there is no hitch made strong enough, mainly because the mounting points on the camaro are too weak for anything higher than a class one.

sam no offense but i saw a pic of your car and you had a trailer hitch on it
It does.... usually. And it's there to tow a 4x8' trailer with 1-2 sets of tires on it and a box with a jack and a few other things with which to change tires. Under the tow rating of the car, well under. Not nearly pulling another car and a tow dolly.

from personal experience, it would cost you less to drive one car, fly back and drive the other one than it would be to pay for the damages inflicted by a 600 mile tow. you're looking at warped heads or a busted tranny at the least. don't do it bro, aint worth it!
The day i bought my car i was driving it back from north carolina and somewhere in kentucky or tenn. i seen a older C4 vette pullling another C4 on a dolly

Talk to most rental places and they wont even let you rent a dolly if you tell them what you are trying to do. So, unless you already own a dolly or are willing to lie to them in favor assuming all liability, I wouldn't suggest it. Find another solution.
