A Watts link would help because you'd lose the lateral movement of the axle due to simple geometry. You can spacer the wheels out some (and hope you have enough room on the outside to not rub there when you do it). But if you look at the gap between the tire and body at rest, it's not small. That's how much your axle moves (and maybe a bit more) laterally when you drive. All spacers do is give you more room to move. Where a Watts link acutally stops the left and right movement altogether. You still have some tire deflection when cornering that not locating device can stop, but you can locate the axle better than with a PHB.

PHB's are cheap and easy, that's why they are used. It's not because they are the best way to locate a solid axle.

There's a few things to keep in mind when you BFH..

1. If you have your back seat down or not attached at the upper point and want to make sure it will fit there again at some point, then make sure its in there and upright. I've heard you can knock the mounting point for the rods that the upper part of the seat attaches to, out of place. I didn't do it.... but haven't put the seat back in yet to check. I probably should have.

2. It makes pieces of the stock coating in the wells fall off. I just sprayed on some new undercoating.

Is this a hacked way to do it? Sure. But these were small sacrifices I was willing to make. My car isn't a show vehicle by any means. In any case you probably will have to do some sort of minor modification to get wide tires and wheels to fit.
