Default Replacing front struts tomorrow

So my friend and I are replacing my front struts tomorrow *old ones are way dead*. I know that in most cases one needs to get an alignment after replacing suspension but I heard theres a way to avoid this. I know it involves marking certain pieces on the suspension.

Could anyone point me to the right direction on what it is? Maybe a picture would help too. Thanks

If your just changing the shocks, and your current alignment is good you shouldn't need an alignment afterwards. And if you do all you'll need is to have the "toe" set.
The only thing that you might want to mark (physically, or mentally) is the position of the the upper mount in relationship to the lower shock mounts,
