possible rack problem? I have been hearing a popping noise on my 02 SS every time I make a turn. I am thinking it is either my rack or it is in my steering shaft. Any information would be appreciated. topgun@npcc.net
Re: possible rack problem? If the car is in the air, can you turn it lock to lock with out noise? Or, if you can safley get the car in the air with jacks under the front control arms (without bending anything), try turning the wheel lock to lock, the suspension will be loaded, but the tires will be free. If it is silent both ways, I'd check for a loose rack. If it makes noises, I'd start looking at tie rods (ball joints, etc), you may have a tie rod that is binding or something bent, or it could be a rack (I doubt it is, but it could be).
