Unhappy Had a little problem today

i just got home from GLD . Sorry i ran off with out saying bye guys. I did good my first pass left at only 4200 to see how the track was and took it easy cuz 2nd was allover the place and ran a 11.70 at 120 with a 1.70 60. But the 2ND time NO GOOD. left the tree at 5500 and right after it hooked bang smack smack then i pushed in the clutch and costed down the track drove it back to the pit's then called a good friend with a flatbed how is only 20mins from GLD payed for his fuel and got us some beers and took some pics at home of what broke.

The drive shaft is okay but its going to get new u joints and dyno balanced and the rear is fine to Just need a new UMI T/Q arm.

It is one of our earlier designs.... the break happened at a part of the metal where the heat has conducted from the weld resulting in a stress area. This is why it has broke after the weld and not on the weld. We do have vehicles still running single digit times on this older design... so not every arm has failed, just a few freak ones here and there.

Please PM me your name and address and we will get you a new torque arm out to replace that free of charge.

Thank you,
Ryan

We as a manufacture hate to see stuff like this but it happens, not often but it happens. All manufactures have failures, even companies that have been around for years and years... large automotive industries like GM and Ford do recalls on a monthly basis on vehicles with faulty items... I am not saying its ok but I am saying it happens, we hate to see it but we can't always control it.

All the big suspension companies have had items fail, including Spohn... I have seen a few pictures of Spohn torque arms break in the exact same location. I could do a search and post a few links but I don't think that is necessary.

Thank you,
Ryan

be sure and check everything on both ends of that arm out. when my eldelbroke arm went it took out the drive shaft which in turn took out the posi and cracked the tailshaft housing on the trans. im not for sure if it was the cause or not of the input and countershaft, but i had a bad vibration in fourth over 100 after that, and i suspect it was the cause of that too. if nothing bound up then you might have gotten lucky

I don't have my UMI T/A in yet but seeing this makes me wonder about a little info. Does this kind of thing happen to a T/A where they break? Any pictures of that? Just hope most of us making the switch aren't putting something in that is equal to or stronger than the stock piece. Can anyone answer that with certainty?

That was one of UMI'S earlier designs. Their new design is very similar to ours. The factory torque arm is made from stamped steel is a very weak and flimsy piece. Our arms along with similar designed products are very strong and durable compared to the factory arm. Although things sometimes break i would not give it a second thought. You are much better off using an aftermarket arm rather than a stock one.

After customer service like this (and a badass sale) I went with a UMI torque arm from Speed Inc.
