Konis aren't that much though.. they are like ~800 a set. Question is do you get the ~400 dollar set, or the ~800 dollar adjustables. Does one think the HD's will be good if they go with a set of lowering springs in the future? Maybe, maybe not. Might it be worth it to spend more money to cover one's self in case they don't like the HDs paired with a set of lowering springs? Maybe, maybe not. Worth the risk, or paying more for a piece of mind? I guess it's up to the buyer to decide

I couldn't agree more.

People spend tons of cash balancing motors and then never spin them over 6K.

Go figger ...

FWIW ... the current leader in points in my class is on 4 year old Bilstein HDs. He is setting track records every weekend. HDs are an awesome shock for under $400 a full set. Thats a LOT of shock for the money.

Is it the best? No. But its head and shoulders above 90% of what's available.

The truth?

You make more profit from Koni sales, so sure, you are gonna fleece many of your customers into a set of Konis. And like a used car salesman, you talk them into it, they get installed and compared to the 100K mile Decarbons, Sam has hung the moon! Truth? Sounds more like taking advantage of those who are not very educated in this particular subject.

I don't buy into your hype, Sam. Never have.

But your "Look at me" threads are quite entertaining ...
I have numerous e-mail and PM from folks tired of your self-serving BS and asking real tech questions. Why PM or e-mail? Because they are tired of getting their threads spammed with vendors wanting to make a sale.

You Mitch need to check your ego at the door. You aren't privy to my books and have NO IDEA what I make on what. In fact, I make a bigger percentage on Bilstein than Koni. You really shouldn't be so jaded. As for "hype"--- it's fine you don't buy it. In fact I relish the fact you don't because you always seem to post something that I get to respond to and put my knowledge (or is that "hype"?) in front of folks and they can make their own decisions based on the contained information.

My self-serving bs is something I pay for right to post. And in fact you know as well as I do that I did in response to other arrogant people with attitudes like yours, folks that don't like me. I haven't done anything wrong, I pay to advertise here--and if I all I did was advertise here it'd be one thing... but most folks know I'm also an active member here and have lots of happy customers (you know, those that actually listen instead of argue with me like you).

The truth is only your slanted perception of reality. Funny thing about humans, they all think they know best even if their sampling is small. You are free to think you know it all Mitch--and again I don't mind a bit because it gives me even more chances to make my counterpoints. But I've run a lot more setups than you have, and I'm not so closed minded to think that, for instance, there is only one correct damping setting, or that you have to constantly play with adjustments on shocks just because they are adjustable. Those are the comments made by somone who really doesn't seem to care to understand how damping works and can make a car better. Others in this thread have Koni's and would not trade them (and not just me). You can argue with me all you want, based on whatever warped perception you have of me.... but you can't say they are recommending them because you think they make better money on them. They recommend them because they've seen what the evil adjustment can do to help them tune the car. But hey, I get it...... and you can think whatever you want, but don't think for minute I'll stand by and let your "expert" opinion go by unchallenged when I disagree. This is a public forum, and again, one I pay for the advertising rights on which I think is no surprise to anyone.

Sam could probably use monroe sensatracs with sportline springs and still beat everyone in his class in autox. Just because of that, it doesn't mean it's the best combination setup to have on the track.

My ego? That's hilarious ...

I don't have to create threads like this one ...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/suspensio...n-results.html

... to prove anything to myself or you or anyone else.

Honestly, if you spent as much time and effort helping users as you do trying to sell parts or discredit me, maybe this section would grow again.

But until the parts sales spam-fest ends, I'm afraid it will languish like all the other F-car boards you've "sponsored".

Hmm..? Just a little bit ago Sam was kind of insisting I pick up a set of HD's over a set of Koni's. Why? Becuase I could save some money from what I plan to do with my car. In no way was he trying to sell me Koni's. But hey way to be a jackass and talk **** to and about the man who really has done nothing wrong. He also talked me out of spending a bunch of money on LCA's and a PHB. But go ahead and say he try's to sell uninformed people parts they don't need.

Mitch, you are being an *******, which is nothing new... but I won't tolerate your running your mouth about my business. Personally you can think whatever you want about me. Seriously you need to grow up.

This thread was about caster, not about me. I had the ***** to answer the man and this is what happens. Way to go Captain Thin-skin. The post above illustrates clearly I recommend what I feel it best for the use (and I tell folks why I feel that way). They can make up their own minds from there. You overstepped--again and you are the one who ruins these sites. Everything is fine until your horns pop out that's on you, not me. I'm only guilty of calling bullshit, and that makes you act like your 5 years old because you have no better way to counter than to try and bully me. Thankfully most see it for what it is.

I will no longer clutter the OP's thread with this crap. I'm sorry to all how had to witness this, but I cannot let wannabe's take pot shots from the gallery and not respond.

I need to grow up? The tangent bagn here.

They do NOT need constant attention that's simply in your head and there are PLENTY of folks folks here know I'm speaking the truth (because they have them). But I'm glad to see you have been able to admit Koni's are awesome shocks because before you thought Bilstien's were all anyone needed because you like them better. But then I wonder if that's because you assume you need to screw with Koni's all the time when you don't.

To those reading, all you need to do is find the guys that have had both and ask them. I can only think of two instances where someone felt Bilstien's were as good or better performing. One is ride oriented, the other is Mitch.
And then the name calling started ...

Yeah ... I need to grow up.

So ..................

......... on the subject of caster, I'm curious what degree of caster Corvettes run these days?? Are they in the 4 - 5° range, same as F-bodies, or do they run more caster? >6°?

Would there be any benefit to running an F-body with A LOT of caster like that??

Vettes run on the order of high 6+ degrees. BMW's, new Mustangs, etc run around 7 degrees. More caster makes for heavier steering, greater tracking stability, and for those cornering increased negative camber gain on the loaded side when turning. Would more caster than 4 degrees be bad? Nope, not bad at all if you can get it reasonably.

Would there be a "target" high # to shoot for?? Or just anything over 6°?

Hey, a question for a old guy trying to understand caster and camber... The high numbers outside of factory recommendations on stock setups, will they cause more or uneven tire wear, hopping, or the like? I am having a problem with FE alignment right now (see my thread for details its legnthy). Thanks for responding!

I don't think the car really needs that much. I have no issues needing more camber, so I don't need the camber gain. I don't like the steering being too heavy because it's harder to be smooth. Also the more caster, the more weight jacking you get around the car when turning (the more you turn the more jacking).
