Sure it wasn't some newer aftermarket double piston caliper?
You can do anything but you have to have the master cylinder to displace the proper volume to actuate that much hydraulics.

Ibelive that was when rotor size was limited . But I think that has changed ,at least last year in the paddies I did'nt see any on the touring cars.
Also of interst did u know camros and stangs rantouring car in the middle 80's, did quite well until Bmw and audi complained andtherestrictions were so tight that it wasn't doable any more.

Its really not worth it, one properly sized caliper could do it in less weight, add more cooling area and be simpler.
Its been done as experiemental in some racing classes, but if you look at brakes in most car racing, none have more than one caliper per rotor.
