Tie Rod Replacement
I am in the middle of a V6 to LS1 swap on my 96 Camaro and am changing to a quick ratio steering rack, but the rack I got from the salvage yard had the tie rods cut off. I want to take the tie rods off my old steering rack, but I cant figure how to remove the tie rod. Are the tie rods removable? Can anyone tell me how to remove the tie rod.

The rubber boot has hard metal bands to seal them. Cut the metal bands, but don't cut the rubber boots.
Under the boot, you will see a large round piece that butts up aganst the rack. It has a flats on it. A big crescent wrench will get it off. It is in there with Loctite, so it will take some ummmph to bust it loose.
Once all back together, seal it with tie wraps

Do I need to remove the nylon pieces first? If so do they just slide off? Is that where the treaded piece is?
