Default Brakes

While replacing my brake pads for the first time i became a moron. One of the brake pads has a snapping looking device, almost like a hook on it, do it go on the inside part of the rotor or the outside/ what does it attach to and what purpose does it serve?

I think you are talking about the squeal strip. As the brake pad wears down, it rubs on the rotor and makes a horrible sound - which tells you its time to replace the pads.

Good question on which side. I think I put my last ones on in the inside of the rotor so I could hear when the insides go bad, since I can see the outsides through the wheel.

Thanks for the response, thats what i did, i just looked on the pad and saw the piston mark was on the pad with the so called squealy thing so i just put it on the inner, kinda funny, my old pad went straight to grinding, but then again, my pads fell off :/
