Default replacing stock torque arm bushing?

might be a stupid question but i wanna know if i c an change the bushing w/o removing the arm. I have a new energy suspension bushing and was hoping i can just remove the bracket connected to the tranny and slide it off the arm. Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can... although when I was installing my new torque arm, it looked a lot easier to replace the bushing if the torque arm were removed. It's really not too difficult to take off... the bolts in the differential housing are long, but they can be pulled in a matter of minutes.

thanks for the reply, I dont have access to a lift and when i was under there today fixing the exhaust it looked like i would have to get the car up a lot higher . P.S. not real fond of being under a car thats on jack stands.

You don't need a lift to do the job... and just make sure you get some beefy 3 ton jackstands (I have Craftsman ones and they work just fine) and don't even put it up a notch... just leave them at base height and that gives you plenty of room to do the job.

Just make sure when you're taking the torque arm off that you support the rear axles with jackstands and/or put the jack under the pumpkin... I forgot to do this and the rear end rotated on me, making things a real PITA.

I did the job today w/o removing the torque arm. I think it took maybe 2hrs at a snail pace. Grinding the rivets probably took the most time. I thought i was going to have. remove the arm to get the bracket off, at one point . I put a wrench on the bolts on the rear and they werent going to move w/o a breaker bar. I went back to the front pushed up on the arm, pulled and rotated the bracket and it came right out. Reassembly was easy. Tranny crossmember was removed for more access to the bolts. I dont think removing the whole arm would have made the job go any quicker. Thanks for the reply's
