Question Cutting Springs??

I was just going to order a Eibach pro-kit but i have had a few people throw the ideal of just cutting the stock springs. I have never done this before and was just looking for experienced guys and gals that have cut them, and how many coils to cut? I am running big and littles 27" back tires and i believe the front are somewhere close to 25 1/2" (have to remeasure). Anyway the guy who i purchased the wheels and tires from said he had 1 1/2 coils cut off the backs but he was running coil-overs on the front. My question is if i take 1 1/2 coils off the rears would i need to take 1 coil off the front? (i dont wont the rake look) If anyone has any advice or pics plz post up pics and give the details. Thanks in advance.

1&1/2 coils is a lot. Most people start with a half coil at a time. I love cut springs cause they ride like stock, or you can torch them too that works good.

dont do it, get an engineered package. the correct amount of drop from the spring with shocks to match the drop. otherwise it'll ride like crap.

dont cheap out. IMO

Ive never experienced good ride with cut springs, thats the cheapo way to do it. They dont perform correctly and ride like ****...

Get some that are correctly engineered.

I wouldn't go more than a full coil, otherwise the car will be too low and will hit the bumpstops constantly. I've got a full coil cut and the ride is great, it's actually better than stock since I replaced the DeCarbons with Bilsteins, and the stance is perfect - not slammed, but no longer 4x4 status.

Don't listen to the naysayers. 1 coil = 1 inch roughly. Like Latch said the ride & handling will be fine and you'll have the look you want.

Yes 1 coil front and rear, also did the heater hose mod... my car was way too high up in the rear before lowering it so this way it ended up damn near perfectly even.

That's odd, my car sits significantly higher than a car on Sportlines. And as far as it riding like ****, what shocks did you have?

That's odd. Mine barely rides much more harsh than stock and its nowhere near slammed like sportlines.

Do you mean the very first coil that makes the spring stand straight
or didn`t you count that coil?
Where did you cut? like the left or like the right?

1/2 a coil is 180* from the tip (end) of the spring, 1 coil = 360*, etc. You cut the non-pigtail end (top).

but when you look at the spring you realize that the first coil 360 from the end can`t drop the car 2" like they say that 1coil does?

i think they don`t count the first coil because ět`s "flat"
why can`t anyone that have cut ta springs before answer??

I cut mine like where you have marked on the left side and did the heater hose mod and it gave it a good stance.

Any pics? Thanks for your response. So if you cut it like the right pic and left in the isolator that would give you 1/2" more drop..

Well I have 28'' Hoosier Radials on back of my car and when i cut the springs it gave it a nice stance. I would do it in like halfs you dont wanna cut to much because its going to settle when you start driving the car around..

Now i have cut my springs.
i cut 2 coils in front and 1,5 coil in the back. I think it`s almost like sportlines.
I have 20" rims and i`m satisfied with the drop in the front but going to do hose mod to in the back. The suspension is very stiff in the front...but looks is everything
