Default 1998 Z28 Really Bumpy and Hard?

Alright so my 1998 Camaro Z28 has stock suspension and every time I hit a slight bump it feels like I run over a small deer or some ****. Is this common for this gen? Should I just replace the stock shocks with Bilsteins?

Well...............first you need to or have someone qualified look at your suspension. I have a 1998 and it is OLD. I wound replacing the bushings and the shocks, then things felt Good again. That was 2 years ago and now i am going to replace the shocks again because it make a World of difference. bilsteins is not the choice i am leaning toward although many people here swear by them.

as stated above, you need to have your suspension gone over. these cars are getting old and things need to be replaced.

Mine was rejuvenated with lower ball joints and bushings. As mentioned, take a look under there for worn/torn bushings and boots. Have someone help you determine what all will be necessary.

If these items are original and seeing that your car is a '98, it is far past due for replacement and more than likely dangerous to drive. At a minimum, you need to replace all of the bushings, balljoints, front shock towers, inner/outer tie rods and shocks if none of these items were ever replaced before now. Don't forget to have a new alignment done after your parts replacement and/or upgrade.

290,000 miles and my ball joints are still good. I ask the tech when i take it in for an alignment. Never just assume that parts are Bad unless you just have Money to Burn.

Well ****, how much should all of that cost? I guess I should do all of that before I start actually modding the car, right?

It's not really that much if you can do the work yourself.

Well you can also visually inspect bushings and other suspension components. If a bushing isn't torn or rotted away, don't replace it but considering you would have to get an alignment ($80) and bushings are $25 a side and I was already sinking money in for, say, ball joints, the cost increase of the job for adding bushings is minimal. That said, it IS $25... I'd do it, that's me.

Negative. Ball joints and bushings vary by manufacturer and quality, so you'll have to price the components yourself depending on what you need. The biggest investment for me was getting a 12 ton press instead of finding a shop to press out and in all my bushings for, say, $50. The press was $100 and it can be used in all my future projects. I'd say $300 is low if you're addressing all bushings and ball joints.
