Default comfort help....

I been reading on bilstein, AGX, monroe, and koni shocks. I am having trouble figuring out which shocks feel the best for daily driving. My TA has 46k miles on it but the shocks still feel good compared to my 95 Formula with 126k miles. I just want better shocks in my 98 TA for overall comfort. I want bumps to not be felt just like in a BMW. Anybody know of how I can get this kind of feeling or is it impossible in these cars?

I would say the Bilsteins are pretty darn comfortable for daily driving in my RS, but the SS got the Koni SAs and they are adjusted to be much firmer than my RS -- I may adjust them down a little...

I am a fan of Monroe, built in America by Americans. I recently replaced My front Struts and rear shocks (yes a spring attached to a shock independent makes it a strut) with Monroe Sensa Trac because I FEEL that they are the most for Comfort. Because of all the BS around here about bilstien the shock so cheap mind you they cannot supply a spring mount!! And Koni the $900 shock LMAO you got to be kidding me! I went and bought a set of KYB Gas-a-just for the rear and installed them to test. Well I have a Brand Bew set of KYB rear that I will sell shortly because they are too bumpy. So for all you people that don't like my opinions let the flame begin. This is of course just my OPINION!

I guess it depends on what type of BMW. I've got a suspension package in mine. I feel the bumps but I like the way it handles them. The right amount of compression and rebound. Though the suspension is going to be a bit different due to our car having a rear axle. I personally think it's impossible to duplicate the same ride as the BMW, but you can definitely add correct compression and rebound to improve handling and ride comfort.

In the end, ride comfort is always subjective to ones opinion. Some people prefer less damping for comfort. I personally don't.

Because you prefer a ride that has less damping control. Nothing wrong with that.. just nothing I want personally.

I prefer bud light compared to a lot of beers during many occasions. Some people might think I have poor taste. It's just personal preference.

I thought that that you were an eccentric person or something with all your Monroe rants but you sir are a Troll.
It is a fact that the 4th gens use Short-Long-Arm front suspension with coil-over-shocks not struts.
An automotive suspension strut combines the primary function of a shock absorber (as a damper), with the ability to support sideways loads not along its axis of compression, somewhat similar to a sliding pillar suspension, thus eliminating the need for an upper suspension arm . This means that a strut must have a more rugged design, with mounting points near its middle for attachment of such loads.

If you read some of his other posts around LS1tech, I don't think you're too far off. I still think there's some hope though

Well I drove in a 06 BMW 325xi. Felt awesome. Sure my firebird dont feel bad at all since it had less miles than the BMW lol but it took normal roads just like comfortable. I dont like bumpy.....I fight bumpy as soon as I sense it. I want smoothness and comfort on rough roads and highways and freeways lol but I thought about bilsteins but people say they just make your car to stiff so I am thinking bumps will be felt even more right? And if the shock is all soft wont it just cancel out the bump feeling and give you the motion instead?

^ Bilsteins did NOT make my RS feel "too stiff", as you mention -- they were actually a dramatic improvement on that car to the point it felt like a different car. The car feels great over most bumps, so the comfort is there.

Since you mentioned BMW, lets start by tossing out all the crappy shocks out the window from this equation. You're looking for good damping characteristics here.

Do you think you could possibly put in lowering springs at some point in time? If you do, I strongly recommend koni's. They have perfect compression dampening for our stock unsprung weight. Then you can adjust the rebound to how you see fit. I put koni's on my car with stock springs at first and then went to stranos. It rides better than a lot of cars I've driven with stock suspension in my opinion.

If you want to save a little money and never plan on going to lowering springs ever.. you want Bilstiens.

Ride quality is always subject to ones own opinion. The trick is identifying what characteristics of the suspension are what you consider good ride quality.

well to me good ride quality is the car just feeling smooth on the road. No shaking, the steering wheel not bouncy at all, and just over all no swaying back and forth at a turn lol or a bump in the road.
