Default Top strut mount plate

I saw in a thread recently (that refuses to be retrieved by the search bar) that the strut mounts up front need to have a certain plate in it to best distribute the weight and impacts that the mounts take. Is that plate in the OE mounts? Can I reuse the plates from my OE mounts when I go and buy the new Moog mounts? Do Moog mounts come with that plate? Thanks yall.

its a wedge-shaped looking piece and yes, should still be in the stock mount, just under the nut that holds everything all together. As long as it cleans up and isnt rusted through, you can reuse 'em

Yeah, that's the thread. What search terms did you use to find it? I went page by page in the suspension thread and also used strut mount plate as keywords. Thanks for the help, man, I sure appreciate it.

Try shock mount. Technically our car doesn't use struts, but you'll probably find stuff because lots of people get that wrong and make threads off of it.

My theory is why spend $16 (one per side) if the one you have already is fine? That $16 is beer money

They don't really wear like the mounts themselves do, so as mentioned as long as they aren't all rusty or anything they are fine to reuse.

BTW, they are called isolators.

So then, from what I'm seeing here, when I buy the Moog mounts, as I had planned all along, I will get the isolator plates at the same time? Do I need to tell OReilly's that I need those isolators as well?

No, they are all separate. Replace yours if they're corroded, worn, or missing. To fix the **** up that's about to happen on my car... I bought these:
(listed under "Coil Spring Insulator" on RockAuto)
2 x "MOOG K6573"

(both listed under "Strut Mount" on RockAuto)
1 x "MOOG K6516"
1 x "MOOG K6517"
I can take close-up pics when I get home tonight, but it's not really any different looking from the pictures of other manufacturers on that website. However, it does look like MOOG sprayed some sort of coating onto their pieces in/around shock hole. I hope that helps with not rusting? After assembly, I'm gonna coat everything anyway.

Also, you'll get four boxes, each with a baggie containing two new bolts and two new nuts. I'm pretty certain they are to mount the entire shock/strut assembly back to the frame of your car. I'll be reusing my stockers.

edit: upon closer inspection... it seems like the mounts are different makes. One has a GM part number, the other does not.

A wire brush (the small ones that look like tooth brushes) to clean them up and soak liberally with your favorite lube or grease

I'm planning on changing front shocks soon.

I'm going to replace the isolators, but is at absolutely necessary to replace the strut mounts? I'd rather not have to spend the $45 each if it's not really needed.

Thanks!

Yes. The mounts are much more likely to be needing replaced than the isolators. The shocks like to rust fuse themselves to the mounts anyway.

Plan on replacing them. Don't try to cheap out and reuse your old ones, otherwise you'll be forced into replacing them anyway and either have to pay local store prices for a mount that doesn't fit right, or order in a properly fitting mount at a price premium, or having to have your car sit torn apart for a few days for the reasonably-priced mounts to arrive.

Been there, done that.

Thanks. I'll order new ones, the Moogs from RockAuto.

Sheesh, between the boots, new coil seats, isolators, and mounts, it's $170 worth of parts just to complete a shock install.
