Default Differences in R&P from 98 to 02?

I have replaced my R&P in my 98 TA a couple of times using the shitty Fenco rebuilt one. Well I've had enough and am getting a AC Delco rebuilt one. After looking at some part numbers I noticed that I put a rack from a 02 in my T/A last time, part number RP6562 and it calls for a RP6537 for a 98. Although it didn't last 5000 miles, the RP6562 (02 R&P) worked just fine. So my question is what is the actual difference in the two? Even the AC Delco shows a different part number for the years. I'm not talking about the code differences either. Both FE2-4 in separate years have different part numbers. I plan on getting the AC Delco one for the 98 b/c it is actually cheaper. So does anyone actually know what the difference is?

Haha this. Maybe rack and pinion? If so the ls1 models are all the same.

If you have some special HD suspension(FE2, FE4, FE7, F41) then it gives a different R&P number only 2000-2002 models have it though.

the F41 and the FE2 are different angles on the input shaft for the Rack and Pinion. but i didnt think they were different from year to year.

All the HD suspensions got the same rack from 00'-02' its kinda weird how GM set it up.

Just kind of strange that the same rack would have 2 different part numbers, and one be a good amount cheaper. My AC Delco one (part # for the 98) will be here Tues and I'll report back if I have any problems.

Go it, installed it, 0 problems. So I guess either will work. Might as well get the cheaper one. lol
