coilover shocks
I have a 55 chev shortbox, stepside, with a 350v8,700R4, and a mustang II IFS. I have Heidt,s single adjustable coilovers ,with tubular control arms top and bottom, disc brakes. These have made my truck a much nicer riding vehicle. I have a ford 9 inch on the rear with drum brakes and super slider leaf springs and NAPA gas shocks!! My question is should I change my shocks to coilovers so that I can pull a small 20 ft bumper hitch trailer??

Rear coil-overs will be a nice addition, but you will need to ditch the leaf springs and go with a link-type suspension system. Maybe just consider a good set of adjustable shocks like the new Viking brand, and then go with a set of add-on air bags to aid with the ride while handling the trailer load.

Firestone and Air Lift both make helper bag systems that bolt in over leaf springs that can be aired up to aid in towing but not affect ride quality when not loaded. The coilover idea can work also when added as an over-load setup in addition to the leaf spring. The new F-150's use a similar setup for their towing packages. The coil-over isn't loaded in the ride height position, but as load is applied it begins to have to compress the leaf spring and reduces squat. But for simplicity and adjustability I would look into the air setups.
