Default Steering Backlash: '98 T/A

I can feel & hear just a tad of backlash in the steering of my '98 TA. It was in an accident back in '99 which required a new LCA on the driver's side, and I first noticed this when I got it back from the shop that did the repairs. It really wasn't that bad back then, barely noticible in fact, but it seems to have gotten slightly worse or is more noticible now (only ~19,200 miles on it). Only feel it when going straight and attempt to turn slightly in either direction. Car drives and steers fine otherwise. Just looking for advice on where to start looking for looseness. If its in the rack, is there an adjustment to tighten this up like on the old style gear boxes?

TIA

yes, it's a 1 3/4" jam nut with about a 7/8" cap that adjusts preload

they're probably metric, but those sizes where close enough for me

Thanks. Is there a "proper" adjustment procedure? On the old gearboxes, you'd losen the jam nut, tighten the center preload screw until its snug, then back it out X fraction of a turn, then lock it back down w/ the jam nut. Just want to be sure I don't damage the rack when making this tweak.

Thanks
