Two panhard bars?

Default Two panhard bars?

I'm slightly confused, I have a 2002 Trans Am, do these cars have TWO panhard bars or just one? i know we removed on factory stamped bar above the larger, longer panhard bar that is still intact, but are there two panhards on these cars? What's going on here?

The lower is the panhard, the upper stamped is the panhard bar bracket brace. If you look carefully, the upper bar goes from the body over to a bracket and braces it. Why does it need to be braced? Because there isnt much room to make a robust bracket so its long and narrow and would fold over if too much pressure is applied to it. Example, put your arm out, imagine me pulling you sideways by your wrist...you could only fight me with your shoulder. Now imagine the same scenario but this time i let you use the free arm to grab your forearm to help fight against me. Now youre much stronger because you braced the long flimsy arm.

I'm with ya. Do people upgrade the braces/brackets? Is it necessary? I'm just curious

No, even though it's stamped it's built strong enough bc there isn't a lot of pressure on it. Lots of people delete the upper bar to save weight. I left mine on for now.

When people upgrade the Panhard brace, it's generally to add room for exhaust. UMI and other manufacturers relocate the Panhard bar and add clearance where the exhaust routes.

I understand the function of the panhard. You answered my question though. The guy who put on my exhaust removed that upper bar, I'll check my brackets myself. I don't drive hard in corners. Might drag race it a few times a year, but I'm fairly grandpa-ish.
