Castle nut question So while taking the spindle arm off the upper ball joint, I broke the cotter pin off in the hole. So without thinking, I used a screwdriver to try to punch out the hole, hit it too hard and it broke off in the hole. Tried drilling it out but started to mangle the thing so now I need a new plan. Thinking a different nut with Loctite or a nylon insert lock nut? What's the best alternative?
If you're going the self locking nut route use a all steel self locking nut, the damaged area on the stud will ruin the nylon insert on a nylon lock nut. Any good hardware store will have full steel self locking nuts.
Most auto parts stores (advanced, auto zone, etc) will "rent" tools like you need for free, once you return them. I'd go that route and replace the ball joint while you have the chance.
