Default Steering rack differences?

So I've looked but havent seemed to find just what im looking for. I know there is a difference between the v6 and LS1 racks, but is there a difference between the Firebird Formula v8 steering rack, and say the WS6 steering rack?

Found a guy locally selling the steering rack out of a V8 Formula, and just want to make sure im going straight across and not changing anything.

I dont believe there is, and some of the V6's came with the ls1 rack as a performance package (y87 cars).

I'm not sure if there was a ratio difference of the v6 rack vs the v8 rack, but the physical exterior difference is the angle of the input shaft. the v6 rack cant be used with a ls engine because of the low mount alternator.

regular V6's 3.4 and 3.8 and the V8 5.7 LT1 4th gens share the same rack, the LS1 and the v6 cars with RPO codes W68 on firebirds and Y87 on camaros share the same rack. all LS1's have the same rack regardless of Formula or T/A, just make sure that "V8 formula" is a 98+ model year so it has the LS1 and not the LT1.

comparing the Camaro and Firebird layout catalogs for LS1 cars.
00-02 Camaro,98-02 Firebird are same.
A different one for Camaro 98-99.

Anyone have a handle on what it takes or any gotchas to put the '01 LS1 V8 rack in an '02 V6?

Just make sure its a FE2 or FE4 style rack. Those are the 2 1/4 turn racks. The other type is 2 1/2 turns that came on v6's without the Y87 package.

Liberty, it shouldnt be anything more than literally swapping the racks and possibly the intermediate shaft. I dont know if the v6 had a different shaft. It should be that simple. Thats all LT1 guys have to do to go to the LS1 style is swap the rack and steering shaft. There is no real benefit unless you have the longer turn ratio style.

yes the regular v6 had a different intermediate shaft (just like the LT1's, so it has to be swapped as well, or you risk damaging the clock spring in the steering wheel because the shaft ends are "clocked" differently. actually one reason to go to the LS1 rack is to get the different intermediate shaft that doesn't have the rag joint that causes slop in the steering on some v6/lt1 cars.
