panhard question

panhard question just got finished installing new rear shocks/springs, what fun, now turning my attention to the panhard bar, Haynes manual says put the car up on jackstands and support the rear end, wouldn't I accomplish the same thing by having my rear tires sitting on my ramps? I know the suspension should be "loaded" when tightening the bolts for the panhard bar and lower control arms. If I read it correctly they want the car on stands and to get the suspension in a loaded position, they want me to raise the car about 1/4" off the stands, well that's not too safe is it? Thanks all
They are correct. Putting the car on jackstands and floor jack supporting the rear end housing will allow you to slightly raise or lower the rear end(only) to get the panhard bolts out and get the panhard bolts in.
