Since a number of suspension installs and measurements say that the car needs to be level, i'm curious what point you use to measure that when the car is in the air. Anyone?
There is more than one way to look at level, There is level as in parked on level ground. Then there is chassis level. On a full frame vehicle you can usually go by the lower most portion of the car/truck frame. On a unibody I have always looked around the car to see if anything would make a good reference point. Side to side is easy enough, Simply measure using the same reference point for each side. Suspension mounting points at the body are usually accurate from side to side. Front to rear is more difficult because there may not be obvious points to measure from. What are you installing?
In this particular case it's an adjustable torque arm. All of the instructions i've read for getting the pinion angle right say the car needs to be level.

That just needs to be measured relative to the trans output shaft and the pinion, the ground doesn't matter in that case. For the drive train, the engine balancer is a little easier to measure, then driveshaft, then flat bottom of axle torque arm mount for the pinion angle. BMR has a good video for doing it right.
If you want relative to to ground, measure to the front bolt of the front lower control arm, also k own as the camber bolt. For the rear, measure to the front lca bolt. A good starting point is to have the rear about 1/2" to 3/4" higher than the front.
