Steering column

Car took a front end hit, steering column hanging off brackets. Was told that column compresses under impact, can it be repaired? 2007 Monte SS. Thanks!

there is a plastic pin that is designed to shear and allow collapse in the shaft........so I would say no

if i am wrong someone correct me

Thanks for the response. Huh, probably should replace column then. Weird it doesn't seem to be malfunctioning, just doesn't fit back onto mount under the dash. Wasn't that big of a hit, airbags still intact.

Ive got access to 2006 donor car, so will probably pull column from that. Was trying to not have to mess with pulling ignition and swapping. Plus, Gives me a chance to learn how it works.
