Default missing bump stop mounts

The previous owner of my '00 SS was drag racing and cut out the actual mounting points for the rear axle bump stops to accommodate his race tires. The bolt holes are completely missing or only half there. I am planning to autocross and road race the car and am trying to come up with a way to put the bump stops back in place. Currently my only solution is to sawzall apart a junkyard car (which I don't think is going to be easy due to the reinforced rolled steel in that area) and then cut up my car to weld and fabricate those in place. Not sure I'm willing to do that and am looking for suggestions from anyone who may have had this same problem. I considered the shock mounted bump stops, but I don't think the shocks will handle that kind of abuse. Thoughts?

get a cordless cutoff wheel and bring some discs and cut out what you need to replace yours . check out some of the post on running 315s their are some good pictures of guys who have moved their bumpstops in a little to keep clearance . rampant comes to mind , white ls7 455 formula has done this and posted pics.

Since the original location mount has been modified/missing, can the bumpstops be mounted on the axle tubes with a U-bolt similar that holds the sway bar to the axle tubes ?

You might be able to add some universal bumpstops to the shock shaft.

It would be helpful if we had pictures of what you are looking at in your wheel wells.

Yes, easily.

Why do you want to put the bump stops back in if your planning to autoX and RR? Believe me, if you plan to use your car primarily for those reasons, your going to want all the room you can get to fit 315 or even 335's, assuming your running a stock width 10bolt. Once you get into the rabbit hole of moding your bump stops are least of your worries. Go run it with stiffer springs and dampners first before going through the trouble of welding back on the bump stops.
