Frt Coil Spring Install

I am installing new front springs. I am using a spring compressor. When I lift the lower control arm I am 1/2 inch short from being able to get the ball joint pin down where I can attach the nut. What starts to happen is the car starts to lift Vs just the control arm. This is not an engine out issue. I have seen some secure a chain around the jack and frame to stop frame from lifting but have not tried that yet. Any suggestions?

Are you saying you disconnected the lower ball joint as opposed to the top ball joint in order to remove the front coil over?

It isn’t a coil over, it’s a separate shock and spring. Yes, I disconnected the bottom ball joint to drop the LCA.

if this is f body design upper and lower control arm, are you using a spring compressor that goes up through the center of the spring where the shock would normally be?
