Question about ls1 spindles.

Default Question about ls1 spindles.

I have an 83 Z28 that I modified to run LS1 front suspension. The car uses the ls1 lower A arm, spindle, brakes, and rack and pinion. The car has been running and driving for a couple of years now and it drives and handles very well. When I was building the car used 17×9 wheels with 6" backspace running 275/45/17 tires to set it up. Fast forward a few years and 17" 200tw tires are hard to find so I sourced a set of 4 2003 Z06 wheels 18x10.5 with 295/35/18 tires. The rears fit no problem but the fronts required a 1/2" spacer to clear the upper ball joint stud. I initially fit the Z06 wheel/tire to the right front and that when I discovered the clearance issue with the ball joint. Now that I have the spacers on and the wheels clear the ball joint I have noticed the the left tire has nearly double the clearance to the ball joint as the right side. Is this a GM thing or might I have a tweaked spindle?

I don't think you've got anything to worry about. On my 91 Z28 I'm running the stock spindles but my passenger side appears to be more straight up and the driver side appears to be more of an angle

I have a spare set of spindles so i pulled them from storage and they are mirror image of each other. I pulled right spindle off car and compared to my spare and the difference was very apparent. The bad spindle is bent outwards, towards the tire at least half an inch. I put the non-bent spindle on the car and recounted the tire. The right tire had noticeable positive camber and measured +2.1*. Original alignment was -.5*. I had to pull an inch of shims from the upper mount to get the alignment back to spec.

Rear spindle is bent upwards towards rotor. Notice how front spindle lays nearly flat to floor.

Old, bent spindle, clearance with 1/2" spacer.

This is driver's side, but gives you an idea of how i mounted 4th gen suspension onto my 3rd gen camaro.
