A very famous 200+ year old quote that often gets used for such occasions as this.
"They can't put anything on the internet that isn't true."

A much more recent quote that is also quite useful in these situations.

How I love a new member who believes they've invented fire.

One look at said scabs post and you can tell the difference, hence the King Talon reference. If you've been here awhile you'll understand the reference that was made earlier.

2002 was the death of the 4th gen, or 2000 when GM decided. Lucky for those today.

The 1998-2002 fourth generation convertibles came about at a time when the Federal government's safety regulations for cars and light trucks became more strict. For example, mandates for airbags passed in 1991 went into effect in 1998. This was also a time when crash ratings became more and more important in vehicle marketing campaigns. GM didn't care if the convertible handled as well as the hard top. All they cared about was that it met emerging Federal safety standards and wasn't perceived by the public as a death trap.

Bracing reduces rattles and noise and made the chassis more rigid but it doesn't suggest that the car is stronger/stiffer than a hard top car because of it.

[QUOTE=Spamfritter;20517013]The 1998-2002 fourth generation convertibles came about at a time when the Federal government's safety regulations for cars and light trucks became more strict. So maybe that ambition led to a more rigid chassis? So the suspension could leverage more effectively against a more stable chassis. The windshield surround became much more rigid in 1998.

We're going to start putting these distractions to bed, no further value (if there even was any in first place) can be had.
